Thinking of getting a dog cage. What size do I need?

We have a 5 month old springer spanial (well we have a 10 yr old as well actually but he doesn't need one!). I would like to be able to take him out and about more but although so far he has been good in the car I don't want to leave him (like if I pop into the shop or school) and besides he is usually covered in mud!

We have a galaxy so there is plenty of room for a cage in the back and I also think it would be handy to get him used to it in case we are visiting someone etc.

So what size do I need to get to accomodate both dog and car. I'm not planning on leaving him in there for long periods or anything so can I get a smaller one and save some boot space?

Worth a look on ebay, it tells you rec size dog for each cage.

We got our Springer this cage for our car.
I think we got size 2 from this company, but measure dog/car before you buy. If I find out what size ours definitely is, I'll post.
Would recommend it as it keeps the mud contained and is very easy to clean. We line ours with a bit of carpet and a fleece. We've also used it as a travel kennel

dh home with car, so nipped out with tape measure.
We got size 3 for our boy. He is a very tall, leggy Springer and has loads of room in this.
We have estate car, though and collapse half back seat to have it longways.
You can look up dog cages on Froogle which gives you prices.

If it isnt for long trips can you not use a pet guard to stop him getting through to the seats!! I have to use one as my dog box we used for flying will not fit in the back of the car..(Only just fit in the back of a NIssan Pathfinder with all backseats down!!)

Thanks Macdog - will look.
Don't really want to use dog guard as a cage would mean we could prk up with boot open and also use in house etc as well.
