Hi, im pretty sure we are all being attacked by mey cat's fleas, and I cannot seem to get rid of the damn things. Does anyone have any experience of this? Or any advice on how to eradicate them? I cannot go on like this - cat is wearing a flea collar, yet i still see fleas all over the place - have seen 2 already this evening! Please help!

yep.

The best way to get rid of them (ime) is to go to the vet and get stuff to treat the cat and the house.

USually is best to treat cat regularly with a spot on treatment such as frontline even if you're using a flea collar.

Go to vets (I think now they actually have to check cat to prove fleas before they will give you stuff).

Sympathise.

Tis a bugger - but the quicker you can deal with it the easier it is to get rid of.

From what I know, cat fleas will feed on humans, but won't live on humans.

There's an anti-flea treatment that really works, that you dab on the back of their neck every six months. And I think you need to vacuum etc to get them out of carpets etc.

controlfreaky2 · 05/01/2007 21:11

yup... they will bite you to bits but not live on you. get cats sorted out and you'll be fine.

CrocodileKate · 05/01/2007 21:13

You need to get the stuff from the vets, the syuff they sell in the supermarkets is not as strong.

BuffysMum · 05/01/2007 21:14

You will need to treat all the carpets etc as they can live in them and just jump on you feed etc. It's a nightmare defumigating your house but the best incentive to ensure that you use pescription stuff from them onward even tho it's not cheap!

We used the fumigating sprays that you can buy from the environmental health dept of your council.
Spray every inch of all your carpets. Don't be surprised if the fleas are still around for another 6 weeks, as that is their lifecycle....try not to hoover too much after putting down the spray.
Cat fleas are revolting. Seeing one on my DS was one of my crappest memories.

You can get Frontline online now so no need to go to the vets.

I recently ordered some for my cat, plus some flea spray for the house.

MummyPenguin · 05/01/2007 22:27

My cat recently had fleas, which he kindly shared with the dogs. I saw a couple jumping around too. I frontlined them all, went mad with the house flea spray. No more fleas on animals, but I had phantom fleas for a good couple of weeks. I kept feeling things crawling on me and swatting at imaginary fleas on myself. It was horrible. There was nothing there, it must have been pshycosematic. (Now I know I haven't spelt that right.)

MummyPenguin · 05/01/2007 22:28

Meant to ask - is Frontline cheaper online? the one I got for the dogs from the vets, although it treated both dogs, was £23 for one packet.

Belgianchox · 06/01/2007 12:09

Thanks for the tips, off to the vet it is then! I'm at the point where I don't care what it costs to get rid of them - totally relate to feeling them all the time even when they're probably not there! Going slightly crazy. I have also seen them on occasions on both of my children....

my four cats have got fleas, and i need a programme of terminator2 proportions to get rid of them. Is the online Frontline as strong as the vets stuff, because it seems a lot cheaper and everything is x4 for me.
i've heard that you can get a prescription from your vet, does anyone know if this is like you take to the doctor to get free medicine, but instead you get free frontline!!! any help/ideas are much appreciated. thanks

HandyTrinkett · 26/06/2007 10:14

we get around the cost of frontline by only using it in the months when the dog is more likely to get fleas/ticks. The last couple of weeks where we've had really warm but damp weather has meant there are loads of ticks about (noticed it a couple of weeks ago in the long grass on the common..)..

NuttyMuffins · 26/06/2007 10:16

You can buy frontline alot cheaper online than at the vets.
