My animals are still outside, i dont have indoor hutches for them and no room to being them in either. I have filled their beddings up with lots of straw, what else can i do to help them keep warm? would a blanket/sheeting over the front help keep them warm?

i was considering those animal crates that folsd away and bringing them in at night, but am certain someone said for guinea pigs bring them in and then putting them outside is not a good idea as they can get chest problems?

Hot water bottle every night
I give my rats who are inside but with the window open all night old clothes to sleep in and on, as well as paper.
I would think a thick blanket over the front at night would be better than none

yes a blanket over the front at night helps. I dont have pets outside (only cats who know whree the radiators are), but I did as a child and remeber covering them up at night.

Lots of bedding as you have done too.

Can you keep nutch backed up to a brick wall rather against a panel garden fence? Out od the wind. That might help.

Cover the roof with something extra too.

Sheet over the front..weigh it down with a brick or two...so air can still get in but no rain...then cover with a thick blanket...maybe cover again with plastic to keep blanket dry....

i worry about the little critters..thats why i dont have any otherwise i wouldnt sleep well at night. daft i know. but used to worry as a child about them.

i hope thats some help...all the extra bedding stuff too.

In Pets at Home you can buy an insulated hutch cover. Pricey (£60?) but may be worth it. Otherwise a blanket all over the hutch.

Our rabbit hutch used to go in a shed for really cold weather, but once when I couldn't do that, I put straw on top of the hutch, and two bags of leaves at the sides with a blanket over the top of everything. (It was backed up against the shed)

we have a bunny and this is his 3rd winter in his hutch, i just layer his bed with a sheet of plastic at the bottom to stop draughts then fill with a thick layer of sawdust then some straw then i fill to the top with hay, we bought a sheet of plastic from diy store that we use when its really frosty/rainy, just draped over the cage with 2 bricks sitting on top of the plastic to stop it blowing away

A piece of old carpet, secured with bricks, dropped over the front at night.
