AS i wont be home till about 7.30pm and my dd will be put into bed... do i leave the cat in the kitchen in the cat carrier with the door open and have food/water out for her? or leave the door shut over nite just for one nite?

Leave her in teh kitchen definitely and by the morning she will have fully explored that one area and then you can let her wander.

I would leave a new cat in a room with the door shut for the first night, but not in a carrier with that door shut IYKWIM. Giving a cat access to only one room is enough when they are bewildered about the changes.

ok thanks noddy (i havent got a clue about Cats you see!)

agree with other posts. Dont leave shut in carrier, but exploring kitchen first night sounds reasonable. Hopefully will locate litter tray too.

Check the kitchen first- make suree tumble drier / washing machine doors etc are closed; there's no way cat can get behind fridge and freezer / or any small places kitbiots can squeeze into but not out of, iyswim.

On day 1 Tripod (our kitten) wedged himself behind the sink stand in tha bathroom (with loo firmly closed safest room in this house and with washable floors too LOL).
