Here is the history

Dennis is coming home tomorrow, and as ggirl requested, here is a photo album of Dennis and his friends

He looks like a Dennis ,lol.
Glad he is on the mend.

Aww that's brilliant - hope he gets better very soon, I got my 7 week old cocker spaniel on Thursday, he's gorgeous

lol, Dennis was the name the rescue centre gave him, cos he kept getting into such mischief

I can't wait to get him back - it's been too quiet without him.

It's going to be hard though - I have to keep him in a cage for a month, and he's not allowed to go up or down stairs for...

wait for it...

6 months!

Oh well, good exercise for me - I live in a coach-house!

Only thing now is that I have to get a dog-stair gate - any ideas?

My local pet shop sell one, but it's £35, and I need 2 extension kits for it before it'll fit my stairs, and they're £10 each!

Any suggestions gratefully received (and don't say Ebay!)

Have any of your friends just got a normal child stirgate they have finished with?

PinkKangaroo · 30/11/2006 20:19

Can you put up a bit of MDF/plywood/similar to block off stairs?

parkj83 · 01/12/2006 19:42

I've thought about the MDF idea - we have put an ironing board across when he's about in the evening (ds is in bed!) as at the mo, he's too knackered to even jump in his bed, plus he's not allowed.

The only issue I have is that before his extrusion, he was a champion jumper - I'm 5'6", and he used to be able to jump up to my chest to get at a toy (or a treat if I told him to).

Once he's settled, and not cage-bound (which he is for a month) I am worried that he'll try and jump whatever we put at the top of the stairs, when the post comes. Admittedly, we have thought about an external post box.

The difference between a dog gate and a child gate is the height - Dennis used to be able to jump a stair-gate. The dog gate I've seen is a fair bit taller, and would probably prove to be a better deterrant (sp?)

What about a wooden frame (like door frame), but covered with wire/mesh/netting.
Sort of like an American screen door effect.
