Have had cats before but not a tiny kitten. It's 2 months old.

We need to vaccinate it and neuter it. Can we let it out before neutering and if so how old when it can go out?

Any tips for settling him in?

Thanks

you can let it out uneutered, you won't be doing that til about 6 months but some vets recommend keeping them in until vaccinated, especially if theres alot of strays in your area.

keep him in one room for a couple of days to settle in and make sure he knows where his litter tray is (you'll have to restrict him for longer if he isn't litter trained butbthey train very quickly)

make sure the kids aren't too rough or loud around him til he gets used to it all and give him lots of cuddles.... he'll be missing him mom. make sure to feed him litttle and often like you would a baby as thay have tny tummies so don't eat much in one sitting.

congratulaions, kittens are hilarious little things [grins]

Oh I'm - you lucky thing! I agree with Pinktinsel, let him get used to your house bit by bit and make sure he gets lots of attention as that will socialise him so that he'll be friendly and used to being handled. Have fun.

Ahhhh, I'm after a kitten. DH says not till after Christmas . Do be careful he/she doesn't escape. We had a note pushed through our letter box last week from a family in the next road, their 7 week old kitten had escaped and got lost. I saw the daughter out in the road looking for it and crying. They are so tiny at that age that they can easily slip out of an open front or back door un noticed. I'm quite surprised that it went though, as usually they are too timid.

Ahh, we got our kitten last week, he's asleep next to me now. As he's from a rescue centre we've had to sign a paper to say we won't let him out until he's neutered because he will be capable of fathering kittens when he is still quite young himself, apparently. Obviously the rescue place doesn't want to be responsible for creating any more unwanted kittens and I will stick to it because I can see their point. They've told me they will neuter him when he is six months old.

At the moment he's such a little scrap that I can't imagine letting him out in the big bad world anyway .

Well ours is a little girl, ans she is adorable. She has so far used her litter tray 4 times and no accidents. How clever is that?

Just thinking of a name now.....

oh, I am soooooo jealous of people getting kittens - I can't wait till we can a) afford it and b) be sure that ds won't emotionally scar the poor creature for life........I know that our house will really be home when we've got a kitten

come on Northerner, what's the name????
