FLEAS

Firstly, would I be able to see them ? Am sure i saw one jump off my leg earlier.

We have a cat and I used some cheap flea stuff on her the other day but I think she may still have them. I keep getting little red spots on feet and neck and arms, but the kids don't seem to have any at all.

The cat isn't allowed upstairs and we have no soft furnishings downstairs except for a rug and curtains.

I really really cannot afford to buy any frontline at the mo, what can I do. Does the stuff need more time to work or is it just crap ??

You would be able to see them. They do jump.
Some people get bitten some dont.
Read the cat flea stuff and do it again if your allowed to.
Dont overdose though or you will make the cat ill.
Youve switched your heating on which may be making the eggs in the carpet etc hatch....Scccreeeeccchhhh

you can buy frontline other than at your vet now as it is not longer a prescription only drug. Also make sure you get something to spray your house with too - the pets will just get reinfested otherwise.

Can't do the cat again for another 3 weeks according to the packet.

I have found a site doing 6 lots of Frontline for £16 but I just haven't the money until next week and anyway I couldn't use it yet if I have used something else could I ?

What spray should I get for the rug and stuff ??? Can anyone reccomend one ?

Get a household flea spray at your pet shop to treat your house.
Wash all the pet bedding.
Use a flea comb(got a nit comb?) which will remove live fleas, larvae and eggs from your pet's coat. Kill all live fleas

We had an awful infestation from our 2 cats quite recently and tried using cheap stuff from the pet shop - systemic stuff for the animals and spray for the house. It didn't work. The spray was worse than useless and the cats just never stopped scratching. Our dd was covered with red spots for weeks and weeks. We had to bite the bullet and get expensive stuff from the vet, which worked immediately, though by then the infestation was so bad we had to keep spraying the house (EVERYWHERE) for several weeks. It's over now, tg, but decided pet shop stuff is false economy. Really sorry, but the cheap stuff really isn't worth the money.

I have my own personal horror story of fleas....was very pregnant and we had my mums cat.
It came with fleas.
We were riddled.
They didnt bite me, but they would go for dps legs the minute he got in from work.
So we flung out the mattress, the rugs the cushions the bean bags...and still riddled.
So we got a £20 can of stuff from the vets to fumigate the flat. Started early, cleaned from one end of the flat to the other with bleach, hoovered up every inch of dust...
...sprayed the house. You had to leave for an hour...so took a wander...returned an hour later to my gleaming, flea-free flat....sat down to watch tv, the remote was on the windowsill...................................next to it was a live flea
Moved after that. Couldnt take anymore. Gave my mum the cat back lol
The moral to my story is, dont depend on the fumigating stuff from the vets

Oh yes, wash everything and hoover carpets, sofas, chairs, mattresses. It's bl*y hard work but there's no other way, ime.

if you have a vet you use and you ask them nicely, they would probably be prepared to sell you just one ampoule of Frontline. Certainly its something we do. People can bring cat into nurses clinic and they will apply a frontline ampoule, all free of charge barr cost of stuff (about £4.75).
Dont buy petshop flea stuff for pet or house its a real false economy, might be ok for prevention but if you actually have fleas it wont work!
Vet or Chemist will have household spray (indorex is a good one-I think about £16). Hoover/spray/dont hoover as long as possible, plus do everywhere in one go.
The council will fumigate house but I think its about £30-40.

fleas are just awful and i bloody hate them.
as mentioned you have to treat the whole house. top to bottom.
top of wardrobes if your cats get up there, move the furniture, right into every corner.
i frontline the dogs every 3m which costs me an arm and a leg. vet said you can do it every 6 during winter but i wont risk it.
mum has 7 cats and is currently battling at her house. i wont let her come round in case she brings some in and they infest my gaff!
she has just spent out on stuff from pet shop that didnt work and is saving up for a couple of weeks to get the stuff from vets.
keep hoovering, like a mad thing. in the mean time, the more eggs etc you can suck out the better.
