Stupid question... dogs/umbilical cords/belly buttons...

What do dogs/cats/lions etc have? Do they have an umbilical cord (can't think how else they would get nourishment)? What happens to it after the birth? Where does it connect to (thinking about a lack of noticable belly button on animals...)???

Yes, probably all stuff I should know, but I don't and now I'm intrigued!!!

All mammals have belly button.
Umbilical cord breaks after birth, or is bitten by mother.

Belly button in same place on animals as on humans, just below ribcage area.

I've wondered this before as well as I've never noticed a belly button on anything but a person!!!

eenysugarplumfairy · 08/11/2006 18:11

come to think of it I havent noticed it on my cats... I dont get it.

Flamesparrow · 08/11/2006 18:13

Will examine the dog later...

You don't really see it on a furry animal, but you'll feel it if you massage their tummies.
Not a button as such, rather a little round lump.

I was fascinated the first time I noticed my collie had one.
Didn't have much of a social life

Here's a picture of a puppy getting it's cord cut!!!

Happy hunting, people

eenysugarplumfairy · 08/11/2006 19:42

Salamander · 09/11/2006 14:35

What I want is PICTURES PICTURES of animals' belly-buttons please!!!

NOW!!!!

morningpaper · 09/11/2006 14:37

I just tried to feel under my cat but she ripped my hand off

Salamander · 09/11/2006 14:50

Good Lord!!!

Perhaps she has an 'outie'

Flamesparrow · 09/11/2006 14:51

The dog gave me a shifty look last night... he's already got a dodgy eye and has had to have his hair tied up because of it, so I didn't push it

CountessDracula · 09/11/2006 15:04

Yes they do have them

I know because I took my dog to the vet worried that she might have a recurrance of cancer and was told that in fact it was her tummy button

Salamander · 09/11/2006 15:29

Everyone who has a digital camera please take a picture of the animal belly-button and let's post!!!

Salamander · 09/11/2006 15:41

I'm going to assault our cats right now

CountessDracula · 09/11/2006 15:43

ooh no
I bet there are loads of dog tummy button fetishists out there who would be perving at my poor pup's button

eenysugarplumfairy · 09/11/2006 16:28

i've got a thing about our cats' many nipples, to be honest

Salamander · 09/11/2006 16:28
