I cant cope with my pets

I am really struggling financially to keep them and the work they give me as well.
I cant deal with the cat hair getting on my clothes around the house the leaves and twigs they drag in with them, trying to stop them jumping on my work surfaces etc etc they are constantly hanging around me for food and are costing a fortune to feed.
On top of all this I have the cost of worming, fleaing vaccinations and the insurance I pay for the four of them every month.
My dog has a minor spraying problem he has been checked out and neutered that hasn't stopped it he also wants constant attention follows me everywhere constantly wants walking, playing with, I walk him twice a day but it never seems enough for him I think some of the spraying may be due to him wanting more attention.
My 14 year old son claims he loves his dog but will never walk him but would be really upset if I rehomes him.
Please go easy on me I took these animals on thinking I would manage and the reality is that I cant.
My one cat has some anger issues but my other two are lovely I am always running out of money as well and have debt that needs addressing.
Please help me decide what to do my dog definitely has to stay he is well loved by everyone but the thought of seeing any of my cats leave for a new home fills me with dread.

Cat rescue - there's bound to be a place near you. Give them a ring.

I have just one dog but I got her when life was shit because she gave/gives me a reason to get out of the house everyday. I view this as a positive. I get away from house, children, housework, the bloody PC.... my walk is my 'me time' (horrible expression but it's accurate).

Can you try to look positively at the opportunities walking offers, plus the love the dog provides?

Can't help you with cats. Don't dislike them but they're a PITA!

How do I deal with watching any of my cats go I could cry when I think about it.

My cats aren't a PITA in any way. They are beautiful, loving and happy girls. Thanks

I have been told to rehome the one who has some anger issues but my he is my sons favourite believe it or not and he can be a character.
He is just a moggy of 6 years old where will he end up that's what worries me.

Send those cats this way! I love huge hairy cats.

Seriously, a breed-specific rescue would rehome them in a flash, and a less crowded home might relieve some of your remaining pets' anxiety.

Lancelottie · 21/04/2015 10:24

Cross-posted, but the two pedigrees would find good homes very easily, more so than a moggy.

I'm sorry you're feeling this way. I can't really help re: the cats as I've never had one, but I know a bit about dogs.

What breed is he, what is he fed and how much exercise does he get? You might find the mental stimulation is beneficial and you can do little bits of training at home, just 5-10 mins at a time. Your DS is old enough to take some responsibility here. Can you get him involved in some sort of dog related hobby? A weekly obedience class or agility perhaps?

lakia · 21/04/2015 10:27

I was gearing towards my Norwegian forest girl she is a real darling but the more demanding out of them all.

My dog is just a mongrel cakes I cant of asked for a better dog really however he certainly loves the attention and if he had his way he would have me playing, feeding and walking him 24 hrs a day.
He gets fed a big bowlful of wagg dried food once a day and a can of wet every other morning alongside of this. He gets walked twice a day but doesn't really get much other exercise, occasionally I throw a ball in the garden for him I admit I don't play with him anywhere near enough.

As for my ds that's another issues more interested in playing on his playstation can never get him out and about.

Unfortunately the food won't be helping - it's full of food that dogs can't digest well (like cereal) with lots of additives, all of which will probably be making him more energetic! I'd recommed switching him to a better quality food (look for something with MAX 20% protein and proper ingredients (not "derivatives" of meat or cereal).

If you spend 5-10 minutes a few times of do doing some training with him you'll get his mind working. Play games like hiding toys around the house or use treat balls / stuffed kongs to get him working.

lakia · 21/04/2015 10:39

what am I going to do I am driving my family mad with this by now and I have been told over and over again that my angry moggy should go.

And if your DS wants to keep all of the pets he needs to step up IMHO.

lakia · 21/04/2015 10:42

its expense though cakes I don't mind giving him the best quality but what with the cats to feed as well as well as fleaing, insurance, worming, I just cant do it.

lakia · 21/04/2015 10:44

That's very true cakes I totally get what you are saying.

OP if you don't have the money to properly care for your pets, nor the time to give them the attention you need, I think you know what you need to do.

Sorry, OP.

Stinkersmum · 21/04/2015 10:46

Food wise - what are you feeding the cats? I know it seems expensive at first but £45 on 10kg of something dry & decent like Royal Canin is much more economical than whiskas cans/biscuits etc. Who do you insure with? Worming and fleaing is a necessity but depending on the age of the cats, vaccinations aren't necessary every year (if at all). I know how you feel about cat hair. Up until 3 days ago I had 11 cats in the house I now have 8 - a good vacuum clean everyday is essential.

Dog - same regarding food, vaccinating etc. Your son needs to put more effort in. Do you have a dp/dh to help out?
