Yorkie with diarrhea

Hi there,
Have a 4 year old yorkie with diarreha on and off for the past few days, I stopped feeling him his usual food and have been giving him plain boiled rice, but this seems to upset jus stomach as well!
He is in fairly good form, but I notice today he has not been drinking so much,
Any advice on how to encourage him to drink? Cannot get him to vet until Wednesday , and I am worried he will become dehydrated.
I would really appreciate any advice.

You could try either syringing water into his mouth (not a needle type syringe - a medicine one) or if not a wet sponge on his lips. Would try to get him in tomorrow if he gets worse - especially as he's such a little dog. Hope he gets better soon

Thank you sparklepup,
Was going to try him with warm milk. But I am afraid this will go through him as well.
I hope he will be ok until Wednesday, as the only vet I will be able to get will be an emergency call and this will be so bloody expensive!
Will try the syringe if all else fails.

Odd question but has he had a fright lately?

My four year old Yorkie got an nasty scare by a neighbour putting something explosive on a bonfire Hmm He was shaking for days and it gave him a dodgy stomach. About three days in total

Keep him on his regular food (his gut is used to it) but cut it right down for a few days, feeding a tiny bit more often is better.

I'd try ringing the vet for a chat if you can't get to one. I'd also think of changing practices if there is no way of getting to a vet other than an emergency call out in a few days time, it's useless. If he's gone from on and off diarrhoea to not drinking it really needs to see a vet.

Thank all,

Gloriousgloria, he hasn't had a fright or been spooked as far as I know! My DH wondered has he been poisoned!!! But he is never out without a lead and is very much a house dog. ( which makes diarrhea

More of a problem)

Honeyroar, the reason I can't get a vet today is because it's a bank holiday here, I will take your advice regarding his usual food ( thinking about it, it makes sense!)
He seems in good form this AM. Will monitor him throughout the day.
Many thanks for all the replies
