CONSTANTLY HUNGRY CAT...

My cat (who is a bit of a pig, was on a diet and is now at target!) has become increasingly whiney over the past few weeks and is constantly asking to be fed - sometimes just a short while after his feed. I've wormed him - but is there anything else this could be apart from him just being a gutsy pain in the arse? He's driving us nuts - the minute we wake up he's crying to be fed, to the point where he wakes up the house. He has been on a senior food for a few weeks - not sure if this is just not providing enough bulk so have added few IAMS biscuits.

Senior food is for the older cat who has slowed down in life, If he is still quite active I would give normal adult food. Was the worming stuff from the vets? Sometimes if its a bad case of worms the shop stuff isn't quite strong enough

have you wormed him lately?

DarkAlleyBongo · 07/10/2006 13:01

god, it would help if i read the post properly

Worming tablet was from vets - about a year old though (blister pack).

I would put him back on proper cat food, I think the senior stuff is designed to stop old cats gettintg fat.

colditz · 07/10/2006 13:09

Or maybe

He was being fed by someone else in the neighbour hood who has now moved

I would worm him again, make sure its a dual wormer for roundworms and tapeworms and put him on adult food again.

I would take him to the vets if he doesn't improve. It could be hyoperthyroidism or renal problems, both common in older cats. Hope he is ok

squarewolf · 07/10/2006 13:31

*hyperthyroidism

Diabetes can also cause excessive hunger. I'd get him to the vets and have him checked out just in case it's something that needs treating.

Thanks - will take him to vet next week if things don't improve now he's back on normal food.

willow how old is ur cat, if over 10 wd strongly advise getting thyroid levels checked esp with whining.Light cat food is designed to add bulk not cals, cd try putting it in one of those balls where he has to work for food?

I have a constantly hungry cat too. He's a year old. He's always been like this. He has been wormed, it can be a bit hit and miss as he's a bugger to worm. He drives me mad, always jumping up on the work surface and always under your feet in the kitchen. He just seems to ALWAYS be hungry. I've had cats before, but don't remember any of them being this bad. He's only a slip of a thing too. Where's he putting it? He even elbows our poor long suffering Golden Retriever out of his bowl and steams into his food.
