The woman at the vets said because he's recently had a bath not to put them on til tomorrow but the thought of the fleas is making me itch and i just want to get it sorted asap.

Does anyoe know the reason or should i just get them on him tonight? His bath was abot this time yesterday btw.

bathing has probably stripped his skin of some of the natural oils etc that act as protection and it may be that they think that the frontline stuff may cause some reaction on the fragile skin - another 24 hrs will allow the skin oils to form a slight protective barrier

PhoenixGhoul · 05/10/2006 19:58

Maybe, but when i thought about it afterwards i ddn't even tell her that he had been bathed so don't know why she sad it. Would u put it on on tonight or not?

dh doesn't think it should be a problem, so long as your dog is dry, if you're just frontlining - though he's a large animal vet not small. There is a small animal MNer vet, maybe she'll help more.

Coolmama · 05/10/2006 20:04

Sorry - you did say in your first post that she had mentioned the bath ??

I would wait until tomorrow if you can - just give doggie a chance to recover from his bath and an extra day won't make any big difference to the "flea count" at this point

2MwahHaHaHappy · 05/10/2006 20:05

Oh, and obviously don't bath the dog after application!

PhoenixGhoul · 05/10/2006 20:32

Thanks. Yeah i know about the bathing afterwards just wondered why not to put it on now.

Oops is the small animal vet MNer I was thinking of.

squarer · 05/10/2006 20:54

I quote from my frontline instructions....
"bathing or shampooing the animal up to one hour prior to treatment does not affect the efficacy of the treatment"
Blob it on, I say!

PhoenixGhoul · 05/10/2006 21:04

Oh thanks i haven't read instructions yet lol

Read your other post re. hoovering, Phoenixgoul, and have to add: don't forget the car...it needs hoovering and spraying too.
Our four legged friend got fleas last year and I was driven crazy hoovering and spraying. The vet said the eggs can lie dormant for months...e.g. over a summer and then when the central heating is put on in the autumn that can cause them to hatch out.
Don't forget the bottom of the curtains also.

PhoenixGhoul · 06/10/2006 12:24

Yeah thanks we realised that yesterday although he doesn't really go in the car cos he's terrified in it but we need to put him in tonight because he's going to my mums while we're away.

Just seen this thread sorry
You CANNOT apply frontline 48hrs before or after bathing it effects how well the product works and can cause the skin to be sensitve.
If you are unsure please contact your local vets
