Bearded dragon question

I've got two young beardies (approx 6 months) living happily together at the moment (been together since end of may). Not sexed as a little too small when bought and I'm no expert. Only ever had a single beardie before so not sure what sexes I can keep together as they get older. At the moment they are both living in the top half of a 3.5 ft two tier tank so splitting them up is no problem if needed. Just hoping I can keep them both together. What combinations can I have living happily together? Presume 2 males will need to be split. Any herbies out there?

I think that your only hope of keeping them together full time is if they're both female. If you find that you have one of each, the likelihood is that the male, on reaching sexual maturity, will harass the female too much for her to have a decent quality of life, with a 1:1:0 ratio. And as you're already predicting, 2 males is unlikely to be a good combination either, once hormones kick in...

There's loads of stories of beardies living happily together for years and suddenly turning on each other. Lots of supposedly cute pictures of beardies "hugging" each other (one is dominating the other by preventing access to light) They are solitary animals and seem to thrive best on their own.

I'd say split them up. Some animals just don't like to live in groups and it's better to be safe then sorry. Good luck!

P.s. Lucky you! They sound adorable.

Beardies prefer to be solitary - split them. If you keep together you'll need massive enclosure to allow them space to get away from each other

We've had beardies a long time and would not recommend ever putting them together. They're solitary animals that only ever come together to breed.

I know someone who had two females together for 5 and a half year and one day the bigger more dominant one flipped and killed it's friend . They will always be one that gets the best food and heat etc.
