We've been offered a rabbit, it's about 2yrs old, I have never owned a rabbit and have absolutely no idea about them at all. The kids are really keen to have it, ds has always wanted one.
What should I know about them, what are the good and bad points? Any tips?

TIA

It would be a good idea to check if the rabbit is used to being handled. Our rabbit was really 'well socialised' from being very small. He's happily sit with the children and be stroked, and they liked to play with him. Our friend's rabbit wasn't handled much when he was young, and he was a bit stompy and aggressive. He bit their children a few times, and didn't really make a very good pet. HTH.

seashells, think hard about it cos rabbits are most neglected pets of all.they need LOTS of exercise to keep bones healthy so sat in a hutch all day is not acceptable, they need a large run all the time not just summer.
diet-loads of rabbots suffer with teeth probs m(check the rabbit you are being offered doesnt already have them)basically they need hay all the time and a tiny amt of dried food (supa rabbit excel), lots of dark green leafy veg.get it insured as vet wise its all expensive cos they need anaesthetising for almost everything.
they will hopefully live 8-10yrs if you look after them

Don't give it lettuce. It's bad for them. IOt gives them diahorreah and makes them sluggish.

Please please don't even consider it, if you aren't prepared to give it lots of space to live/run about in.As bottomburp said they neeed exercise and a large run, with plenty of access to foliage. Our rabbits are free-range and go into the animal shed at night. A caged rabbit is one of the saddest sights to see.
