Neighbours have a new puppy-help

Hi
Brand new neighbours moved in next door a couple of weeks ago .
Last weekend they bought a puppy boxer.
It is left in a cage from 7 am until 6pm all day weekdays and cries and barks relentlessly ALL day.
&pm until 11pm we have some respite.
Sometimes barks/cries 11-2 but seems more often from about 2am,
I am at the end of my tether.
I am a working mum and have 3 children.I dont want to upset our new neighbours but we are all truly knackered,Am dreading going back to work and school next week because we all seem to be downstairs about 4am drinking bloody tea every night.
New neighbours might be even more exhuasted than we are i suppose, but cant understand why they ignore it.I would be truly mortified if a puppy of mine made so much noise during those hours.
Could someone please tell me if this is normal for a new puppy ?
Is it something they have to go through like a new baby sort of thing ?
I think the cage thing is awful but apparently its the norm ?
I worry about the poor dog having a sore throat barking for that long.
Any advice ?
I need some sleep and to know if this is only temporary.

cage training is normal, it might seem cruel, but its a good way to get a dog house trained and stops the house getting wrecked, HOWEVER... a puppy shouldn't be left in a cage that long.

Boxers are gorgouse. my family have owned loads over the years so know them pretty well.

They are very intellegent and social animals who will bebored rigid if left alone for long periods which is whyyour getting the barking.

i would pop round one day when you know they are home and tell them he is barking all day...they are out so may not realise.
if they do nothing or it persists ring the RSPCA, it is unfair for him to be caged that way.

No its in the kitchen.
I thought boxers were really nice pets so i`m hoping he will settle.
nice to know its a normal part of training because they seem really nice people and dont want to fall out.
They are probably just following a training program then.
Why do they ignore the barking during the night.
Do you think this is part of training ? If so i feel glad but awful at the same time for a certain amount of door slamming this morning about 4am ! We are semi detached with them and the walls are really thin so i must admit i stomped down the stairs and slammed the door as loud as i could this morning (oooch )

i have 2 dogs and personally didnt cage train them as the crying broke my heart and i couldnt sleep, nor could the neighbours, as you have discovered. my house didnt get wrecked as i kept them in the bedroom with me or on the foot of the bed. they couldnt get down so went to sleep.
a dog left in a cage all day to howl should be visited by the rspca.
if you work all day or the dog needs to be in a cage all day for whatever reason, dont get a dog.

Cage training does work well but a puppy should not be left for a long period of time during the day. I personally don't leave a puppy in a cage during the day for more than 1 hour.
It is normal to leave them at night because they will cry at first and going to them rewards them for being noisy BUT if its very young and the crying in the night starts at 2am it probably just needs a wee

I would not be happy though at the thought of a puppy being in a cage all day every day. Do they work all day?

thats my concern mag.
not caging is just my personal preference but i agree the pup being left all day is wrong. it will go mad!!
And surely, if its in there that long all day it probably knocks its water over and is covered in poo when they get home.

My dog is cage trained, he is a staffy and we had to cage train him, purely because he did wreak the house. He is nearly 1 now and he is much calmer. He still likes to chew, but doesn't destroy my sofa or walls anymore. He is left in the cage when we go out or when young children are about (because he scares them) and at night. He even goes into his cage when he is sleepy as its 'his space'
I wouldn't leave him in the cage all day every day, as that is cruel. He needs excerise and company.

A dog will not poo in its sleeping space, but I bet it is crossing its legs after 11 hours.

Exactly its the all day every day bit which is wrong.

Mine are in their crate if we are out for the day but they are not puppies anymore and can tolerate the odd occasion when its longer than just popping out. Its the fact that a young puppy should be played with, nurtured and given lots of attention especially in the 1st few weeks in a new home

Of course my dogs are still treated like that when they aren't beahving like bouncing loons
(They both got neutered last week and have reverted back to puppyhood!!!!)

oh, mine did. when i tried to leave them in there all night.
dirty girls they were!!
not now though, they are real ladies, think they rule the roost!!

The puppy is in the cage 7am until 6pm Mon to Fri but i have niticed a few visitors. Maybe just bad timing0they should have got the pup when they were both off for a couple of weeks.

Yep, they all homed now I miss them but 6 puppies really make a lot of mess!!!

Their mum is looking fatter tahnk goodness and has turned into a puppy again but the chewing is starting again. Think she's just attention seeking The hosepipe got it today much to dh's annoyance

Ohshhot, anyone who works full time should not have a puppy in my opinion and if the puppy really is in a cage all day and crying all day I think you should either have a chat to them, pop a note through the door or ring the rspca

oh no -the chewing!! We are slowly getting our boy to stop with the chewing, he is much better now, tho he will give it a good go if he gets the chance (or wants attention) Next thing we have to do, is to get him to stop the jumping up on people (especially children)

Ohshoot, I agree with Mag that a puppy shouldn;t be left for that long.

Lol.... Maisie is a huge jumper and is such a lump. The kids cope well with it but I am 24 weeks pregnant now so have to be on my guard in case she leaps on me

Funny thing is he doesn't jump at my kids or us, just visitors. He loves attention and he is very friendly, but people freak out when he jumps.

This isn't crate training it's cruelty. From 7am to 6pm is torture. Poor poor puppy.

I think I would say something.

Yep same here, both mine are crazy round visitors and there are certain friends the kids can't invite round coz they are too scared
I do keep them in the kitchen when certain people come round but I look forward to the day I can just have them wandering around and not acting like nutters!! (that goes for the kids too )
