i think we paid about £65 for our dog 6 years ago,

charliecat · 19/07/2006 15:57

about £80 quid. Its £40 a cat.

Marne · 19/07/2006 15:57

my mum payed £50 for hers but that was 8 years ago so i would say £50-£80

Iklboo · 19/07/2006 15:57

We paid about £40 for ours, including a collar.
What kind of doggy are you getting? I recommend a retired greyhound. They don't need lots of exercise - they're actually really lazy & prefer sleeping & cuddling. They have good natures too and are almost all very good with children (but probably not cats). They're very loving.

Can you guess what kind of dog I've got

SleepyJess · 19/07/2006 16:00

They were are more expensive than I first expected when my mum got one 3 years ago. I think we paid the minimum donation of £30-odd (due to being broke not tight). But then the animal sanctuary know my mum.. she has had dogs from them before (years ago.. who lived to ripe old ages.)

When I lived up North we visited a dogs home and the dogs were all different prices but the cheapest were about £60-70. And you have to go through quite a process so they can ensure the dog is going to a decent home.

nutcracker · 19/07/2006 16:27

Well when my dad got his dog which admittidly was 15 years ago, you made a donation, but when we went up to have a look today, it was £72 and I think it varied from dog to dog.

I was quite shocked really. Didn't expect it to be more than £50, but then our cat was £40.

Anyway the one we wanted had been reserved. Ds was soooooooooooooooo upset.

We aren't really looking for a particular kind but would prefer it to be under a year old really.

Price didn't include spaying.

Not sure what type of dog we should be looking for.

Don't think I want anything large as I felt quite intimidated by the large dogs even though they were in cages.

our local ncdl ask £80 i think.

nutcracker · 19/07/2006 20:10

I think by large i mean Alsatian size and bigger.

We want a small to medium sized dog, good with kids and a cat although tbh the cat will more than likely just ignore it.

what kind of rescue centre rehomes a dog without spaying it these days
Sounds dodgy IMO

nutcracker · 21/07/2006 09:35

It was Birmingham dogs home Piffle, so I don't think they are dodgy, but I agree that they should be spaying them.

Piffle is right, no dog home should rehome a dog without it being neutered and if its a puppy under 5 months you usually have to sign a form to aggree to take them back for neutering.
Its too risky to let unneutered dogs go to new homes as it means more puppies needing homes
