My cat needs emergancy vet treatment and has got out the house

He has been under dd1's bed all day, when he came out I noticed that his whole back end is twisted and his right leg looks broken. I phoned the emergancy vet and got his box out, while on the phone to the pet insurance compancy he must have got out. I have driven all around the area, asked neighbours and checked the playing fields, have also asked any dog walkers if they have seen him, one lady knows exactly what he looks like as her daughter was cuddling him the other day and discribed his collar to me,and said she would look out for him.

Break out the catnip and watch him come running.

SparklyGothKat · 14/07/2006 21:51

I have none, have rattled his food, and called him tons. He is a nightmare, he has cost me so much money, but I love him.

Cats like to hide under things when frightened, sounds silly but have you checked under beds/sofas/units etc
Good luck

behind ALL sofas

SparklyGothKat · 14/07/2006 21:57

Have checked everywhere, he is nowhere in the house. Have taken my female cat's collar off as I keep hearing her bell and thinking it is him

SparklyGothKat · 14/07/2006 22:09

if he is hurt, he might have gone to ground. I've read that they have this instinct as an injured cat can't defend itself against other predators, so it finds a sheltered place until it has recovered and can defend itself again. i would look in and under sheds, in garages, in small spaces like between shed and a wall, etc.

PinkTulips · 14/07/2006 22:56

check the garden under everything.. bushes sheds etc, also under all the cars in the street, cats tend to hide in a low down enclosed place when they're hurt and frightened. and double check wierd places in the house like wardrobes and under things... its odd that he'd run off if his leg is broken.

SparklyGothKat · 14/07/2006 23:00

most of my house is packed into boxes, so there isn't really anywhere that he could hide under. He can barely walk, so I am shocked that he has managed to get out the garden TBH. Have checked the wardrobes and under dd1's bed (as that is his hiding spot) have checked all over the garden and my neighbour has checked in his garden for me

hope he turns up

Mytwopenceworth · 14/07/2006 23:20

cats can get into the most amazingly tiny places though. try not to worry, i am sure he will turn up. xx

SparklyGothKat · 14/07/2006 23:26

found him!!! Have just phoned the vet and while stroking him found a small lump on his leg, the vet said it sounds like a cat bite absess and she is happy for him to stay at home tonight and to go to the vet in the morning

The emergancy vet wanted me to pay for all the treatment upfront, with a £90 emergancy call out charge. He is insuranced so I don't understand I thought they claim the moeny straight from the insurance compancy.

Glad you have found him and hope he's ok when he sees the vet.

Chandra · 14/07/2006 23:37

Erm... no, you have to pay, ring the insurance company to get a claim form, take it to the vets whose accountant fills and sends to the insurance and then you get a cheque for the amount spent via the post.

SparklyGothKat · 15/07/2006 09:57

he has broken his leg in 3 places, the vet won't know the full extent of the breaks until he has x-ray him. He thinks that Nemo was most certainly hit by a car. The vet is going to do a direct claim with the insurance compancy as it will cost about £800. Nemo will be at the vets for about a week. My poor baby

[sigh of relief at your vet doing a direct claim], our vet is not that nice.

Sad that he has the leg broken so badly but nice they can do something about it (Blessed pet insurance!!!)

SparklyGothKat · 15/07/2006 10:13

Thank god I took it out, Nemo was very ill at xmas and I didn't have pet insurance, he cost me over £200 because I had to go to the emergancy vet. After that I took out pet insurance for my 2 cats and dog. the vet said he has at least 3 breaks in his femar (sp??) bone, but is sure if his pelvis is broken as he didn;t want to mess about with his bones too much. He has been given painkillers and sedation, and will be xrayed later on. Depending on the breaks the vet could do the op. today and pin it, but if its shattered (which the vet thinks is a strong possiblility) he will have to order in a special pin and do the op on monday.

SparklyGothKat · 15/07/2006 10:14
