Our neighbours were cat mad, they had at least 10 our garden was totally over run all the time not to mention the mess and fleas. We had 2 cats one if which was so nervous of their cars always being in our garden that we sent him to live with my mum he's now his happy relaxed self. The girl cat was a bit more able to handle herself but also spent much more time inside than him so stayed with us, was perfectly happy. Then she just disappeared we were worried but hoped she would come back. After talking with the next dour husband we said we hoped she was okay somewhere. He looked confused and said she's fine, settled in well! I said have you got our cat and he suddenly back tracked. What can we do!? I'm mostly relieved she's okay but how bloody cheeky.

A lot of people don't realise, but taking a cat does count as theft. How long was she missing? Did you make any effort to look for her? It could be that your neighbour thought you knew and just weren't bothered. Have you told your neighbour that you want the cat back?

Is the cat microchipped so you can prove ownership? If yes contact the police and see if they can help.

Yes she is micro chipped, so il look into that. We called the micro chip company when we couldn't find her.

Call the police- they have stolen your cat and she is microchipped so registered to you.

Nip in to the police station rather than phone I think.

I don't think a microchip is legal proof of ownership but presumably you've got loads of other evidence like vet records, photos etc. I would think that once your neighbours realise that you want the cat back and are willing to take legal action that they'll just hand her back.

I'm sorry if this seems a bit ott but....The Bastards. Do you know where the neighbours have moved to, I would go to their house and demand your poor cat back.

The microchip and registration to her name/address will help OP prove this is the right cat, the thieving neighbours could otherwise just claim it's a different cat.

OP if you play hardball I think they will give in rather than go through the hassle of lawyers, police, etc.

I had a cat that that was camping out in our garden every day and night , would not go home just wanted to hang around with my cat and eat with my cat, they were both neutred males. In the end we moved and took cat with us as it would not go home, after few weeks felt guilty so took to vet to see if microchipped, yes it was but when owner was contacted they said best that cat stayed where it was, they could not or could not be bothered to look after him, and this cat was registered to an animal rescue so had been abandoned twice! so if your cat dont wanna live with you look at the reasons why.
