Next door neighbour used to feed his rabbits strawberries - they loved them. And pears, oddly enough!

oh well i tried, but they don't like them!

We used to feed my rabbit cooked spaghetti (without the sauce, obviously) as a special treat. No idea if it's good for their diet (I suspect probably not ) but he used to LOVE it! Looked very funny nibbling up the strands too...

Pear was another major favourite - don't remember giving him strawberries...

harpsichordcarrier · 06/07/2006 20:31

well I wouldn't, tbh, esp not this weather.
a little bit of pear/apple as a treat.
at spaghetti
bunnies have got really ropey little digestive tracts, you know

I was 12 at the time, so my mother did the dietry planning - in my defence!

It was fairly rare - he had a good dry food/veg peelings/veg & fruit scraps/hay diet otherwise

i know i have to be careful with them, my last rabbit had really bad teeth, probably because i didn't feed it enough hay and grass. these rabbit have been fed really plainly but sometimes i wish i could give them something a bit different.

I totally misread the title and thought that it said "can i feel my rabbits strawberries"!!!!
PMSL!!!
How odd thought i, but then again there are some funny names for private parts out there......but then begs the question why would any one want to feel thier rabbits strawberries!!!!!

harpsichordcarrier · 06/07/2006 20:34

my friend, who's a vet nurse, feeds her bunny bourbon biscuits georgina

GeorginaA · 06/07/2006 20:37

Yikes

Would have drawn the line at that...

Mind you, I found out recently that we did just about everything wrong with my childhood goldfish, so I'm probably not a good source of pet information

Although I am getting a dab hand with tropical fish and aquatic snails ... (well, okay, I've owned Bill and Ted (my nerite snails) for a grand total of 48 hours now - but hey, at least I've read up about them and semi-know what I'm doing...)

wannaBe1974 · 07/07/2006 11:11

had a friend who used to feed her rabit buttered toast!

trinityrhino · 07/07/2006 11:15

my chickens used to eat cheese, melon, sweetcorn and mashed potato, aswell as their proper feed

harpsichordcarrier · 07/07/2006 18:57

toast is OK - wholemeal bread, baked hard
probably not with butter though
or marmite

Mine love strawbs. My eldest rabbit, William tries to take food out of my mouth, especially if I'm eating breakfast cereal or nuts. He's also partial to grapes but I only give things like this one in a blue moon as they have delicate tummies and are easily upset. FOr a treat I get those Super Forage feasts, they are round discs of dried hay, grass etc compacted down into a biscuit shape. They really go mad for those, you can get them at most pet shops.
