I need new homes for my cats

Sad

We are moving to NZ in a couple of months and have decided that it is too much to take the cats with us - it just wouldn't be fair on them, not just the trip but they'd have to go into a cattery when they arrived as we wouldn't have anywhere for them to live straight away.

Now it's crunch time and I need to find new homes for them - would much prefer to do this myself as I would feel horribly guilty handing them over the CPL (oh dear here come the tears - I've never felt so guilty in all my life. But we can't stay here just for them, even though I kind of feel we should!)

Am going to be emailing everyone I know putting out feelers and also talking to local vets and the pet shop in the high street. However I thought I'd try here too in case anyone is looking to rehome adult cats. We are in Twickenham.

I have 3 but would rehome the brother and sister together and the other cat separately as I don't think many people want 3 cats! The brother and sister are both 8, extremely friendly (especially the male, he is like an animated teddy bear), great with children, medium sized, M is all black, F is black & white. The other cat is around 9, we rescued her from an old next door neighbour who wasn't very nice to her and gradually we've restored her faith in humanity. In the summer, she generally goes 'bush', sleeps outside, scoots in briefly to eat etc., but in the winter she's a friendly house cat. She won't generally let you pick her up, but she is super cuddly.

So if anyone is interested or knows of anyone please let me know. More info/pictures obviously available. And please don't hate me for doing this

I can't help you rehome them but I can join you in your guilt. When we moved, we left our rescue cats behind They moved in with a neighbour. Sadly one was far too jittery and was terrified of DS1 so they both went to ive next door :(

I still feel sad about it even though I know we did the right thing.

thanks soupy
I know it's absolutely the right thing but -

Now that soppy cat lovers have been revealed everywhere on Mumsnet, a bump for this. In case anyone wants some lovely cats.

MrsJC (I was arfy. Not to be confused with arfishymeau or Arfy. grrrr)

Marina · 13/07/2006 13:01

I wish we could but we are holding off on cats because we are both out all day during the week and it seems hard on the moggy.
Plus we'd have to dye yours MrsJC as ds AND dd already want tabbies apparently
I do hope you get a good home for them. Given their age I think you are absolutely right not to put them through the processes to get them to NZ. I think rehoming is the kinder solution for them.

ooh forgot to say the 9 year old is tabby

she'd prob be a crap pet for your children though Marina! (and thanks for the kind words) I kind of think she might be better off with an old lady or similar. may canvass the endless supply of oldsters around here

Should mention all 3 have had DD (now 19 months around) and have graciously allowed all manner of tail pulling, hugging and ear yanking, so they are children safe. They HATE dogs though

I have two mumsnet cats already so can't help out, but bump for you anyway.

Have to say I'm a SAHM and despite being at home a lot of the time, the cats spent most of the day outside and we don't see them much until the evening time when they come in for food and attention. Your kids would probably fall in love with them despite their markings marina (no pressure ).

Also adopting older cats was great as there was no toilet training to be done - bonus!

I would love to take on the brother and sister as pals for my 9 year old beautiful tortoiseshell. Alas, Twickenham seems too far.....

YellowFeathers · 13/07/2006 13:14

arfy
I will have a word with my mum and dad.
My mum would love another cat and she keeps looking on the net and in adverts.
They do have a cat already but she is a bit older than yours, doesn't go out and is frightened of everything so you never know shes there as she spends half her life under blankets and cushions.

They aren't near you either (north yorks) but I am sure if they wanted, something could be arranged.
I will speak to her later but it might be Monday before I can get back to you.

QueenEagle · 13/07/2006 13:14

Wish I could help MJC but I'm not allowed any more

southeastastra · 13/07/2006 13:24

i'll have them, but can you post them?

MrsJohnCusack · 13/07/2006 13:41

thanks everyone

I've posted pictures of them here and here

YellowFeathers · 13/07/2006 13:46

Oh they are lovely!

Aero · 13/07/2006 13:55

Aww - Freeloader and the all black one look just like Ronnie and Charlie.

MrsJohnCusack · 21/08/2006 11:38

BUMP
just in case anyone is looking for cats! Freeloader has a new home but the other two (Merlin & MOrgan) still need one - I have a couple of possibilities but I'm worried they'll fall through and we'll have nothing.
