Why does my dog eat dd's pooh out of her potty?

I know labradors are supposed to eat anything but this is ridiculous. He ate one she did on the patio the other week and now he has eaten two out of her potty - the first I know about it is when she comes to tell me she's done a pooh and that he 'et' it. I know she has done one because the room smells and there's a smear in the potty. And he's licking his lips.
It's so completely gross. She's only just started using the potty as opposed to her knickers and I am so pleased that she's going without me standing over her.
yuck yuck yuck.

Our dog regularly used to retrieve pooey nappies from the bin - nothing like coming home to find a chewed up pooey nappy minus the poo on the floor.

I had a particularly sqeamish and fussy friend around once - her face as she watched my dd who had taken off her nappy toddle into the kitchen with the dog licking her dirty bum behind her will go with me to my grave.

Dogs like cowpats too.......

Dinosaur · 31/07/2007 14:25

Thanks .

I don't usually mind people posting TMI in thread titles but this is ridiculous!

Can't you just empty the potty straight away?

belgo · 31/07/2007 14:28

buy one of those child's toilet seats and get her pooing directly into the toilet. The flush immediately.

belgo · 31/07/2007 14:28

my dog used to love rolling in dog shits and horse shits too!!....she must've of thought it was perfume!!

SixKindsOfCrisis · 31/07/2007 14:33

"stealth poos"
I had a dog with similar habits. Very difficult to break. Simplest thing is prob to clear up as quickly as possible and give your dog a good clean up next time he finds a poo before you.
Apparently some early human civilisations used to keep dogs specifically to do the job of tidying up poos, though personally I prefer poo to stay where it is put.

Thank God my 2 dogs do not do this but they do eat horse poo and roll in fox poo

Maisie watches us carefully out on walks and as soon as she thinks we are not watching she statches a quick mouthful of horse poo and runs!!

magnolia1 · 05/08/2007 15:36

She snatches in fact

LowFatPumpkinJuice · 05/08/2007 15:46

Our old dog used to eat other dog poo's when we took her out for a walk. And people wonder why others dont like to see a dog like a face or a plate (bleurgh)

nomdeplume · 05/08/2007 15:47

dogs truly are minging creatures.

Amos · 07/08/2007 20:57

thought the pooh eating thing was a distant memory as we managed 4 days still adding pineapple! then today she waited for us to sit down wih are tea andsneaked out had a pooh and ate the lot is it time fot the vets do you think?????

aloha · 07/08/2007 20:59

Disgusting. He does it because you don't clean her potty quickly enough.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 07/08/2007 21:01

LMFAO

Our labs eat ds1s turds if they get the chance!
They have even eaten disposable nappies if they get the chance. They used to nick them out of the bin when we went out and eat the soiled area, including the crystals.
Im sure it did them no good, but they never got ill and all the crystals came out the other end!

Amos · 07/08/2007 22:36

(hmm) not sure what you mean when you say she does it coz not cleaning nappy quick enough as im talking about my dog eating her own pooh not a babies!!!!!!!!

mumto2nuttybells · 07/08/2007 22:38

Now that is funny bloody funny! Dogs eat anything including poo they dont like waste i suppose, well at least you dont have the rankness of tipping it down the toilet and water slashing up your arm. YUCK!

Drusilla · 07/08/2007 22:54

Our dog eats DS poo an dnappies given half a chance. He has no interest in his own or other dogs poos though. Or mine or DHs (although he's never had the chance to get his chops around one of ours!). According toi our vet it's a pack thing - he is removing evidence of a baby from predators! He is quite keen on horse shit though, and I'm not sure how that affects her theory...

mumto2nuttybells · 07/08/2007 22:56

You think dog eating poo is disturbing, my 1 yr old son tried eating his, i was changing his bum and when i let him off to crawl around he grabbed the dirty nappy and the whole lot fell out he grabed a bit and went to eat it, i was almost sick
