He was missing for 4 weeks and has come home with a traveller on his neck. I hate ticks, have put some frontline on cat's neck, will this get rid of it?? He is going to vets on wednesday, will they remove it?? Its white atm.

never seen a white tick. Yes the vet will remove it.

jampots · 29/04/2006 23:19

when we were little our cat had a tick on the back of its neck. I think our neighbour pulled it out.

SparklyGothKat · 29/04/2006 23:19

what colour are they normally then?? My last cat had a white tick as well.

oo you shouldnt pull them out as the head is buried.

veNivIDdiViCkiqV · 29/04/2006 23:22

put vaseline all over it. Will suffocate and die.

jampots · 29/04/2006 23:22

take it to the vet tomorrow then

fastasleep · 29/04/2006 23:22

I read TRICK! And was very interested..

anticlimax!

veNivIDdiViCkiqV · 29/04/2006 23:22

then you can pull it off

arfy · 29/04/2006 23:23

yes don't pull it out, you might leave the head bit behind

don't think frontline will help, am sure the vet will remove it for you. I think they change colour as they suck blood (yuk)

really glad he came back BTW, after 4 weeks, goodness!

Greensleeves · 29/04/2006 23:24

The vet will remove it, but you can buy a tick hook from a pet shop and do it yourself - it's cheaper.

arfy · 29/04/2006 23:25

that's right, I remember using a tick hook on a dog ages ago. VVVQ's tip might help as well, seem to remember we painted something onto ticks when i worked at a stables that suffocated them

SparklyGothKat · 29/04/2006 23:25

but its nasty, I really can't... might get my best friend round to do it..

OP posts:
arfy · 29/04/2006 23:26

if he's going to the vets anyway, they might not charge you extra anyhow to take it off. they are grim, aren't they!

jampots · 29/04/2006 23:27

wont dh do it?

SparklyGothKat · 29/04/2006 23:28

Just found this

FRONTLINE flea and tick control kills 100% of ticks on dogs and cats within 24-48 hours.

Yes!! I don't have to pull it off, it will die...

SparklyGothKat · 29/04/2006 23:29

arfy · 29/04/2006 23:30

mumball · 29/04/2006 23:30

mumball · 29/04/2006 23:31

SparklyGothKat · 29/04/2006 23:31

best way to get ticks off is to put surgical spirit on themm (otherwise known as white spirit) you can buy it in a chemist, just put a bit on cotton wool, dab it on the tick and it will detach and you can just lift it off then.

Went to the lake district a couple of years ago and my dog picked up some ticks there and it was very easy to remove them, they're horrible.
