Is there an alternative to a surgical cat collar?

My poor little puss cat has been spayed today, and is wearing a surgical collar to stop her licking her wound. She is not at all happy about this! She looks really pitiful and is bumping into things. The vet said to keep it on for 10 days!!!!! She can't eat or drink either very well. Does anyone have any tips to help her deal with this , or is there any alternatives to keep her away from her wound? Thanks

neither of my cats had collars on when they were spayed. In fact when I was little we had both our cats spayed and they both pulled their stitches out within 24 hours, vet said not to worry as long as the wounds were clean. If it was me I'd take off the collar and just keep an eye on the wound to make sure that it's not becoming infected. are the sitches soluable ones or does she have to go back to have them out

Got to go back next Friday! She is managing to eat better now, but is still bumping into things- poor thing!

i would be very very wary of taking the collar off tbh.
I have seen a few cases wher ethe cats have chawed through the stitiches and into the muscle layer below. It isn't quite so bad if the wound is on her side, but if it is along her belly, then if she chews through the next lot of stitiches, her guts could come out of the hole
It is not a common ocurrance, but can be very very serious.
So, it sounds like she is getting used to the collar, make sure she can eat and drink with it on, but do persevere in keeping it on.

It will probably only need to stay on 5-7 days, the wound often heals well by then, if you take it off and the wound is licked and becomes infected what happens is it has to stay on even longer! so not much is gained tbh.

my cat wasnt given a collar either - thank goodness..
is she a gentle cat? mine is and just wanted to lick the wound, in a few days it should have scabbed up anyway and be quite well stuck together (the wound)

different vets probably just paractise diffently, she will get used to collar, just see how she goes

Vet said keep it on! She is getting used to it, but I have to keep wiping it- it has dinner all around the rim! She had dinner on her nose too! I took it off for a bit today, and watched her like a hawk, but she just had a really good lick and clean up, all over. Felt mean putting it back on though.
