Is it just coincidence DD keeps showing cold symptoms?

A little concerned, but not too much right now.

We got a new cat on Monday. That evening DD had cold like symptoms. She seemed a little better during the day at PILs on Tuesday. Last nigth cold symptoms again., and this morning. She has come home from nursery looking/seeming okay.

Now I have not known DD to have an allergy - she is nearly 4yo and she has only very rarely had a bit of dry itchy skin int he past, so not expecting her to be affected by a cat.

But could it be? How would I know?

As I said not overly concerned at the moment, but it is bugging me a little as I know she is very attached to Sassy already.

My DP is allergic to cats - he gets red itchy eyes and blows his nose a lot.

Hulababy · 15/03/2006 17:17

She is sniffly, runny nose and her eyes look tired. Been home about an hour and she seems okay still i think. Will have to monitor.

The symptoms were slower to come on if the cat isn't in the same room as him, but generally given an hour would start.

Diff to know at this time of year what with all the colds doing the rounds.

Is she itchy? Top of her head, neck, throat? Give her some Piriton syrup, if the symptoms disappear then she's allergic and please get rid of the cat as life will be hell for your DD otherwise.

I'm allergic to cats and SeconfhandRose is right, if it is an allergy then your DD life will be awful if you keep the cat. Is she wheezy too?

dd1 is mildly allergic to our cat which is a shame as they love each other. If she strokes the cat and then rubs her eyes she gets very itchy red eyes, ditto if the cat sleeps on her bed for too long. She is 6 so knows now to wash her hands after handling the cat. I give Piriton for bad attacks but tbh nothing has been so bad that we have considered getting rid of the cat (shame as I can't stand the bloody thing Grin)

Aww, hopefully she's just got the snuffles and it's not anything to do with Sassy Smile

I saw \link{http://www.bassfiles.net/cleanscreen.swf\this} yesterday, the kids love it - do you want your screen cleaned? Grin

She is now sniffly again after playing on and off with the cat since getting home from nursery. She has been itching but she also has a little dry skin on her tummy, from before the cat, so not sure if that or not.

Might try piriton and look to see if there is a change.

Please let it be a cold. DD is very attached after just 2 days. In a week's time this will eb worse.

My 5 year old DD is also allergic to our cat (also has other allergies), She knows enough to make sure that she washes her hands after touching him and also that she doesn't sit near him or sit where he's been. Having said this she is on daily anti hystamines for her allergies in general but she's coming off them at the weekend, so we will have to see how she goes.
