The cats (well, one of them definitely) have fleas. We have treated them with Frontline Combo at Vet's recommendation. We are embarking on the long, hard road of spraying the house with RIP Fleas. We are not infested as such, there are a few fleas on one cat, but we haven't found them on the other two, nor is there any sign of eggs etc on the places where they sleep.

DD is always bitten lots, whereas dh and I don't really suffer.

What we were wondering was, could we treat ourselves with frontline? It would be so much easier. We are mammals, after all.

No don't use frontline on yourself. Fleas will not live on humans they jump on bite jump off. You are all being bitten, however, your daughter is allergic to the bites. Antihistamine will help her itchy red bites whilst you kill the fleas.

Don't forget for the spray to work it is really important to Hoover first.

Thanks. I told dh he got bitten but didn't react to it. He reckons they don't bite him because he gets hayfever. Hmm

Ah, hoovering. I wish I could forget it! Every single bit of floor is covered in wall-to-wall carpet - kitchen and bathroom included. I hate it, but dh won't let me tear it up as his "toesies" like to be warm for the 5 minutes he's barefoot in the morning. Another Hmm

So yes, we've hoovered, sprayed, hoovered. 4 loads of washing done, including all bedding, sleeping bags which are stowed under beds, towels which mysteriously have set up a commune in dd's bedroom (about 3 left in the bathroom!). The washing machine door fell off, but if I can hang it on the little bit of hinge that's left then it seals fine when it's closed, so can still do washing. Beds will be remade in a short while.

DD just found a flea on her ankle and has drowned it. I think Tea tree oil is supposed to be off-putting to the little buggers, and lavender. We have both.

My next house will be carpet less!

Maybe some nice chemist somewhere will develop human Frontline!

Watches with interest. Grrr fleas. One just jumped on iPad and same last night. I got the one from last night but failed tonight.

I never though of frontline for humans though lol. Dp is on warfarin though so I reckon if he lies in the middle of the floor and they all bite him they'll die of poisoning Grin

Have been using bob Martin stuff on cats but it doesn't seem to be working.

Lonecatwithkitten · 01/09/2012 23:17

Minty you need to get something much better than Bob Martins which not only kills fleas but also cats- no joke.

Jux · 02/09/2012 11:22

Where did you get the Bob Martin stuff? I only use stuff you get from the vet, as it actually works, and the stuff I got from pet shops or the supermarket invariably didn't. Jolly expensive though.

May I borrow your dp for while? We have several floors he can lie on (all nicely carpeted). I'll give him cuppas!

I had a flea jump onto the iPad last night. Got him though, and took him to the sink and drowned him.

The Bob Martin stuff really doesn't work unfortunately, as it's much cheaper than the Frontline combo

Monty27 · 03/09/2012 10:04

Lone - maybe I could get the cats to bite dp Grin

Jux, the Bob Martin stuff didn't work on my cats. I went to Sainsbo's yesterday and bought a can of spray from the pharmacy (can't remember the name it is Kedor or something) and 6 peppits of Front Line. For the princely sum of circa £48. Fgs!
