Ethically sourced cat food?

Can anybody help me? We have recently acquired two cats and I've just given them their dinner, which was Felix - Poultry flavour. I looked at the pack and thought, 'My gosh, they can't even say what kind of poultry it is, Chicken or Turkey or whatever' and my mind boggled at the thought of the horrible offal-y bits that must be jumbled up inside it. We are strict vegetarians (no meat, no fish, no meat products) and I don't overly like the idea of purchasing any meat, particularly meat that is made from animals that have been factory farmed (I became a vegetarian coz I wanted to be sure no animals suffer for the production of my food). But of course cats must have it. So I'm wondering if there are any pet food companies that do ethically sourced meat, i.e. meat that is made from free range animals, which would have the added bonus that we would actually know what was in it. I'm going to Google this too, but I figured Mumsnetters might already have figured out where the best and cheapest place is to obtain such a thing.

Arden Grange I think would fit the bill.

Or maybe Orijen, but unless you're in Canada it won't be very local and I guess the transport may be a factor to consider.

Or raw feeding, that way you can just buy free range/organic meat from a butcher.

Erm, please do point out, sergei, where it says in my original post that I am planning to let my cats starve.

I didn't even know this, but the big pet food companies test their food on animals too, what they call 'invasive testing' i.e. strapping the animals down and force-feeding them. It's a crazy, crazy world where food for one lot of much-loved animals is tested on some other animals in a distinctly unloving way.

Thank you ornellaia, I've just ordered some food from the Arden Grange website.

What ever food you buy it will contain offal in particular liver as this where the taurine that your cat needs comes from.
