We live 50% of the time in Mid S.W. France and have our own very bossy, mean and teritorial small female cat but being the easy english soft touch types we have been feeding a number of village cats . There is one who is young very male but doesn't spray (he has large balls so we assume he's unspayed!) Do you think he IS whole? the poor thing was covered in ticks which we've removed and put frontline on him so he now "lives on our terrace" and very vocally asks for affection and food.

I would say don't feed him if you are only there half the time. Poor chap will get used to you and then be left to fend for himself. Also rabies is still prevalent in parts of France.

Could you catch him, take to a vets and get him castrated? Would there be cat rescue societies there willing to help with the bill? And do be careful re the rabies.

I bet he can handle a cushy life just for a spell, UKSky.
What Doggle said, it would be a kindness. There are French cat rescue groups.

UskyWe organise a neighbour to look after our cats when we go away (wouldn't dream of leaving them without care).

Yes we probably will doggies; but why can't we smell him? DH says that he may have been vasectomised which doesn't remove the testicles, I don't know maybe it's 'cos it's his home but we've a large garden and outbuildings and we don't smell that (very noticeable) Grin smell anywhere. He's not rabid BTW!
