Anyone had one or has one? What are they like?

Had experience of one, but was pre-children. They are like babies themselves and can be very much a one man/one woman dog. Why don't you ask your local vet if they would recommend as a child-friendly dog. We've a lab cross who was a rescue dog who is the most patient dog, even when trodden on. Thank goodness. Dobermans need a lot of exercise and too much breeding can mean that they known to have problems with legs/hips etc. Hope this helps a bit

Bloody hell Herc, haven't you chosen yet??

DH says buy an old english sheepdog or St Bernard and be done with it.

ie the dogs he wishes he could have but cn't because of garden size. We will have- we decided- a Boxer.

hercules · 21/02/2006 19:06

Dh would love a st bernard but too much hair!

hercules · 21/02/2006 19:09

Ridgebacks need too much exercise. We have spent hours researching. It's far harder than buying a house etc.

labs are too boring! sorry!

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 21/02/2006 19:10

Now that is utter rot!

They need 45 mins a day minimum but will walk all day if you want

ShaysMummy · 21/02/2006 19:12

aawww.
mine aren't!!
they are tons of fun.
you mean boring to look at?

PeachyClair · 21/02/2006 19:14

Um, I don't really like Labs either. I think it depends what you want from a dog?

(Peachy runs for cover)

hercules · 21/02/2006 19:20

should be safe. I doubt many lab owners will look at this thread!

Herc, wolfhounds are lovely but have an average life expectancy of 6 years only, so be prepared for early heartbreak. |Have you seen meggiemoo's thread about the weimeraner she's trying to rhome?
