dog crate to keep cat off moses basket?

I have a newborn and want to foster a good relationship between baby and my beloved cat which means i am reluctant to lock the cat out of my room at night as my cat has always been able to go freely and often chooses to sleep in there. The cat nets for moses basket i have seen (and bought one of) are flimsy and although they may keep a kitten out, there is no way they would take the weight of my cat even if taut.
I have been thinking. Perhaps if I bought a very large dog cage with a removeable base, i could place it over the moses basket so it forms a secure removeable barrier in the night. Then even if my cat jumped on top, it wouldnt be able to hurt baby. Since I have not had a dog crate before, what does anyone think to this idea? Is it feasbile? I think it is something for would be entrepreneurs to come up with as i think there would be a market.

You have no need for dog cages or even cat nets (though I had one for my first, even though the cats were never allowed in that bedroom, so never viewed it as part of their territory.)

Your cat will not suffocate your baby. I promise you this.

um, I like my cats and all, but I'd shut the bedroom door before putting my baby in a cage, lol...

Cats tend to steer clear of babies tbh, they're noisy, unpredictable and leak

My cat has only ever got into carrycot when baby not in it.
Lemon peel and tin foil are hood deterrents

Oh I though you were putting the cat in the dog crate.

I wouldn't worry, our cat had no desire to get into the moses basket with the small, smelly noisy human. We had no net or anything.

Dog crates are heavy and noisy if you're lifting it about and also the bottoms don't come out. They have removable trays but the actual bottoms are bars.

Hi I have 5 cats and no they have never tried to get in the moses basket, cot or

playpen with our daughter. Only when she wasn't in there!!
I have never shut them out of our bedroom when baby was in there with us...I do however keep them out of her room now as they wake her up (she's 3) but she was perfectly fine with our cats, even as a toddler. All the stories you here are just scaremongering, ie cats are unclean get rid of them if you have a baby etc...old wives tales most of it, take it with a pinch of salt!
As for a dog crate, I wouldn't use one.....midwives etc would do their nut!!
