To think Dogs V Cats, there's only one way to sort it - FIGHT!!!

Now I love my cats at 6 weeks they were house trained, don't expect a walk but affection is when they want it.

My dog is so lovely loyal but expects walking and attention even if that means sitting next to me as I watch television.

So which one is better, dogs or cats?

Hang your jacket up! Dogs make you tidy. Xmas Grin

Dogs. I adore and worship mine, I would be lost without her. She is beautiful intelligent and perfect. I am not a cat person though, but I think Siamese are OK.

Neither. < runs for it >

One of the things I find most endearing about dogs is their inability to ever remember that cats will always get the upper hand. Or rather paw.

OrmIrian · 16/12/2011 20:50

I have both and I love 'em!

But there are times when I see my cats stalking around in their cooly independent fashion, making their way through the world, self-assured, self-contained. Then I hear the squeak of Harley's toy, the constant repetive crunch of the water bottle that he has decided to eat and the whine/bark of Harley 'stuck' on the wrong side of the a door that is ajar but he hasn't quite worked out how to get through Hmm. He is thick as pig-shit and much as I love him and much as he enhances our lives, he makes it much harder too. Cats tiptoe lightly through my life, Harley stomps through it on mud-covered size-10 wellies

Cats. Pure and simple. Which is why I don't own a dog.

*They are hilarious - aloof until you waggle a bit of ribbon in your face then they can't help but cave in
*They have principles - snub them / go away for a few days and they'll make you earn their affection back
*They are clever - one of mine clearly sees a dog-shaped hole in the household and plays fetch with bits of paper balls and growls when the doorbell rings, just to ensure I dont give in and get a dog
*They are stupid - one of mine falls asleep on her face all the time Grin
*They are just as easy to train as dogs - a simple 'ah ah ah' is enough to stop mine doing anything they shouldn't

and the two main areas I prefer them to dogs:
*They are appear less dangerous
*They are less demanding

I work all the hours god sends. To have a dog would be unfair on it. Cats fit perfectly with this way of life.

Ha, for all you who think dogs are needy and unintelligent: my mum's dog tried to train us to give her food when she was about 4 months old. She figured out that we rewarded certain behaviour with food and first started doing the behaviours to see if that would elicit food and then REFUSING to do them unless we gave her treats.

There was also a dog in the neighbourhood who figured out how to open doors and got into people's houses and gardens.

Dog's win every time here. Our two are little old ladies now but I would be lost without them. They go to PIL's for breaks away from the DC and I miss them terribly, wonder if MIL would take me with her next time for a break from the DC Xmas Grin

I think DD2 would love to pinch next doors cat and bring him in here. I have never been a massive lover of cats TBH but even I would have a cat if it was like my next door neighbours. He is lovely, and playful and like to try and sneak in our front door.

definitely cats here they are elegant aloof haughty but when you need a cheer up theres nothing better than a purring cat to stroke, the dog here knows her place right behind the cats

Hello. We've moved this into 'Pets', as we think it's the best place for it!

Trills · 17/12/2011 21:19

No need to guess what side you're on, eh Kat? Wink

I have a win win here, I have a 2 year old cat that thinks its a dog. It lounges around like a dog, lays like a dog, when she has been running around she pants like a dog. Although like a cat she is fully litter trained and eats cat food there was one time I had to take her to my parents and she ate there dogs dog food. So I think that catdogs are the best :)
