Is it possible to stop my cats fighting?

We have 2 sisters age 2 years. We got them at 3 months and they fought/played and cuddled up together. One of them, the nervous serious one, stopped wanting to play/fight a while back but the other one wants to carry on and doesn't seem to know when to stop, she's relentless! This results in a lot of hissing, spitting and clumps of fur round the house. We have reached the point where we are starting to put the attacker into another room to calm her down but we can't separate them forever.

Is there anything we can do to stop the one attacking the other? Their fighting if just horrible to watch/hear!

Our brother and sister cats (rescued 4 years ago) do this after being loved up for the first year they were here. The bully boy goes out a lot and the nervous skittery girl is mostly a house cat venturing out only when necessary.

I have had some success with "scruffing" the bully to calm him (there's a lot on the web about technique) basically you hold him down gently but firmly by his scruff as a mother cat would. Wouldn't worry too much unless there are injuries - ours are usually better in the winter as bully boy wants warmth and skittery girl falls for his charms every time!

Ok thanks I will look up scruffing.

There aren't any injuries just lots of hissing and growling by the one being attacked.

If only they could stay like kittens forever
