In his wisdom he has decided to create a fear of going outside, or at least thats what I think it is.
He rattles at the door wanting to go out as usual but when we get up to let him out he turns round and runs off and if you grab him to throw him out he just digs his claws in and backs off????!!

Dh thinks it could be the fireworks but it's never caused a problem before and this has only been happening in the last 3 days and we haven't had any going off in this time.

The other thing is he is constantly washing himself, now you may think that's good but it's all the time and the noise he makes doing it is just ridiculous!

Help me, I'm on the verge of losing my voice atm so I cannot shout at him anymore.
I need to do something though as it's driving me mad!

Omg!! Thank god we're not the only ones

He is banned from sleeping on the landing upstairs because I can hear it through the door and it wakes me up

Haven't a clue what to do about him going out. I had to carry him out tonight and stand outside in the frezzing cold and then sneak in when he wasn't looking.

Thats a good idea!

I mean, tbh he really is a fairy. He'll walk round puddles rather than walk through them like normal dogs so I'm wondering if it's the cold.

pmsl!

Has he come from the same family of dogs? Could be hereditary, lol!

What breed is he?

A Beagle, Oliver.
Funny because he will do things like that too. If dh and I are play fighting or just rolling around with dd he starts barking and growling. He doesn't like it at all.

Let me know if you go to the vets, will be interesting to hear what they say.

Beautiful dogs, Weimaramers. It was a close call between one of them a Dalmation and a Beagle.

Will he not go out the front on the lead? Is it just the back garedn or everywhere outside?

Even though the fireworks have stopped it could have gradually built up a fear inside him?? My cat was fine the 1st 2 nights of fireworks but now they have stopped he is like a thing possessed. Wont go out or anything and is pee'ing indoors

Is it a full moon soon Tends to send animals scatty!! And people for that matter

Our eldest dog is 1 and she will jump in a river quite happily but wont walk in puddles or go out to pee in the rain!!

Ellbell · 14/11/2005 11:20

Definitely sounds like stress-behaviour Nbg, though it could also be the cold (freezing up here at the moment, isn't it?). My dog bites her nails when she gets stressed, which is also a truly horrific noise to sit and listen to (puts my teeth on edge, like nails down a blackboard), and has licked her paws till they are raw in the past.

lol ngb - how old is he? in serious ness our GSD went thru a phase of not going out at all in the rain, or snow - just used to look out the window and cry for a wee! (big girls blouse) he got out of the phase about 12-18 months ish I think. DH went out and played with him and he was OK.

munz · 14/11/2005 11:40

(yes and neither will go out if the fire works are going off esp the GSD)

Thanks for the replies.

He is 4 (5 next Feb). He does have anxiety problems. He cannot be left on the house on his own. When we moved in to this house we decided to no longer use his cage and for the first month he was fine and then eventually he just flipped on day and we came home to a ripped up sofa, holes in the walls and a damaged door.

I was going to take him on the lead but I just stood outside with him, which he seemed ok with.
If you watch him though he literally does his business and runs straight for the door wanting to come in.

Will have to see how he goes on over the next few days.
