Some quick advice on fledglings and cats please!

Our cat got 3 fledglings last year which I found very traumatic especially as she brought them in live.

Over the last few days an adult tit has been very noisy in our tree and I have spotted it going into a nest box (which I though was never used)and can hear lots of baby birds in there.

Needless to say our cat is sitting underneath where the nest is, I am presuming she is waiting for the fledglings to come out.

I am thinking of trying to keep our cat in (Trying because she managed to burst through the locked catflap once when I had rescued a pidgeon from our fireplace!).

I know it's nature for cats to hunt and not all fledglings survive etc but I am thinking 'not on my watch' plus I find it very traumatic.

My question is, does the fact that the mother bird is making lots of noise indicate that the she's trying to get the chicks to come out? It was this time last year that our cat got the 3 babybirds.

She could be alarm calling because of the cat sitting there. Not sure if they call to entice them out they just tend to stop feeding them. In many instances the adults will feed the fledglings outside the nest for a day or two until they can fly and feed themselves and this would be the most vulnerable time, not sure if tits do this or not.
