Does anyone know if you can catch worms from your cat? My sis has them, she's very distraut and can't think were she's got them from. She does have a cat but she treats him regularly with Frontline. We are a bit flummoxed really.

You can catch worms from animals. If she has young kids then it is prob more likely that she has caught it from one of them via nursery/school. Worms are mega common in young kids (due to lax handwashing after loo and fingers in mouths habits) and are also pretty contagious too. Tell SIL not to worry about it and to treat everyone (aside from preg women) in the household with OVEX or other worming treatments.

Thanks. Yes, she does have young kids and she helps out once a week at their school. So maybe that's where she picked them up.

Depends on what type of worms I think. Afaik, threadworms (like the name suggests, they look like cotton thread), cannot be caught from pets.
Treat with ovex though and keep a strict hygiene code - eggs can live in the home for up to six weeks and re-treatment may be necessary after two weeks. The advice is to hoover daily and wash bedding very regularly, handwashing etc etc. Can you tell we had a bad experience with this earlier this year? Bleugh.

Most likely picked up from school in that case.

But I thought you did get them from pets - in fact I thought most kids got them from playing in contaminated areas (like parks) and then putting fingers in mouths?

Tapeworms and roundworms maybe, but not threadworms. Think they only live in humans from what I read in the treatment info sheet.

Info link for you.

Thank you so much for your advice. I will pass it on to my sister.
