Escaping bunny!

We got a beautiful mini rex rabbit last week. Our garden is quite small. She's been enjoying her hutch and her run. Today we bunny-proofed the garden and let her out. She jumped over the 75cm high fence that we had erected to stop her getting behind our shed. This is significantly higher than her run (which is about 65cm). She has never once tried to jump out of her run. I am worried now that efhis can jump that high, it's only a matter of time before she jumps out of the run, over the fence and goes behind the shed again where there is the possibility to escape. I truly believe she's been working out her escape route all week whilst sitting in the run because she went directly to that spot. I've got a cover/net thing/sun shade for the run. Do you think I need to start using it everytime I put her in the run? Is it OK to only let her in the run and not roaming around the garden? Thanks

yes, i would put the cover over the run unless/until the garden is well secured.

rabbits can jump VERY high when they want to, so you'll probably want something that is at least 4-5ft high to stop her getting out

No kidding! Was I mad to think that she would not jump out of the run? Why hasn't she tried to?

You probably want to bury any wire at least 1 foot down as once she can no longer jump out she start digging out. Bunnies are escape artists.

You would want a lid on your run anyway, to protect your bun from birds of pray.

Oh, and for an illustration of how high they can jump, check out Rabbit Show Jumping on You Tube!
