chameleon - insurance and other newbie questions

We're getting a yemen chameleon at the weekend - we've spent about 6 months researching and thinking about it. Got all the stuff from the centre a couple of weeks ago and set up the terranium last week.

I haven't bought insurance yet though (and it seems it can get expensive when these guys get sick!) so any recommendations would be welcome.

I'm also wondering what to do if we go away? For longer periods i noticed a local reptile centre does holiday care, so whilest not ideal because it will probably cause some stress being somewhere new its the best we can do. If we want to go away for a weekend though i was wondering if it would be ok for someone to come in a couple of times a day/once a day to mist, empty water catcher/refill water tank, and feed - or we really need to house him at the center then too?

We'd like to keep live food as humainly as possible - so bought a small plastic tank for locusts - what should we put in there for them to be comfortable? What do you do about mealworms and grubs?

Think that's it for now! TIA

Hi, what kind of set up do u have for your Cham? I have kept them in the past and I keep a few other species. As for your Locusts, you really only need to use egg crate to keep them gives them somewhere to hide and poo etc. They need food and hydration, so here is the cheapest place to get your stuff www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/search.php?mode=search&page=1

Also if you wanted to give them a little more room you can use this: www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/html/onlineshop/fullrange_rub.php a 5L or above :) good for breeding locusts also.

As for water use this www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/zoo-med-drippers.html.... Really depends on your setup this is why I ask as I have a couple of solutions for humidity.

Pretty much having someone in to feed them once per day if your Cham is young would be fine. But Make sure they know that they will need to spray a couple of times per day as the Cham will not drink from a water bowl. Boarding is really the only option for longer holidays unless you have a friend or family member that is willing to put in the work. insurance is pretty much shop around and see what prices you get.
