Vet Question - Asthmatic cat is getting worse and worse - is anything actually going to help? :o(

My cat has been diagnosed with asthma for the past 3.5 years and we have tried everything to try and help her breathing, from steroid tablets to cat inhalers to powders and pills to try and open up her bronchal airways etc. Nothing is working. :(

I feel so sorry for her as over the last couple of days every breath has become an effort and it so so noisy too. I keep dragging her back to the vets who keep trying her on different meds but nothing seems to be working.

Now it's getting extremely difficult to give her any medication because as soon as she sees me she bolts! If i do go near her and she knows she cant escape, her breathing gets worse (if that's possible!) and she starts coughing because she is stressed about me giving her tablets (i am very quick at giving the tablets to her - just pop them in and swallow, done in a flash).

So really what i'm asking is this. IS there anything that will actually help her or do you think it's time to call it a day. I feel awful thinking about "playing God" with her life, but I also have to think about being humane.

It never seemed to bother her before but now it appears that she isn't comfortable any more. She is losing weight too so she is clearly having trouble eating (although the food bowls always seem to be empty, but this could be my other cat having a field day with all the food!).

Any advice or words or wisdom would be much appreciated!

Just spoke to my vet and she said that we really are probably at the end of the road now. :(

Sorry RGP Sad

I dread the day I have to let mine go. But catinthehat's right - you clearly love her lots, so you have to do what's best for her, hard as it is.

I hope you can enjoy your time left with her.
