Rabbits and guinea pigs mix

We always kept them together as children with no problems but I have heard this isn't recommended. Does anyone keep rabbits and gp's together? We have just inherited a rabbit, nearly 1 and I was quite keen to get her a guinea pig friend. Any advice gratefully received

We have both but separately.Guinea pigs have very different dietary needs to rabbits and would get a incomplete diet from rabbit food as guinea pigs cannot make vitamin C and so need it in their food / and plenty of veg every day.If they live together you will not know who is eating which food. Also rabbits tend to bully guineas and a kick from a rabbits hind legs could kill guinea pig.

As king prawn said, and also the RSPCA do not receommend it under any circumstances anymore, the other thing is guineas are very communicative and love to squeak to each other and rabbits can't provide that.

I would never ever recommend keeping them together, they are not the same species and do not understand each other.

They also cannot have the same diet, rabbits should never be fed the cheap muesli mix, they should have a good quality rabbit pellet to stop them being overweight and give them all that they need in their diet, pretty much everything kingprawn said!

If you have got a rabbit I would suggest neutering and adopting another rabbit, it will make your bunny much happier and neutering will make your rabbit much more friendly. I would encourage visiting happy hoppers rabbit forum to find out more about your lovely new addition :)

Totally agree with other posters. They can't understand each other and do not get along. Think the gp get a worst deal as they can be very overwhelmed by rabbits. A friend of mine kept them together and oh my those piggies led a miserable life!

The food thing is the biggest problem with keeping them together, it would be very easy for a piggie to get ill off a rabbits diet. But also rabbits are much stronger (very powerful legs!) so there's the added danger of them hurting a smaller piggie.
