just after some answers to my questions really, my gorgeous 6 month old kitten is loving and playful but wont go out, ive tried and failled!! with a lead/cradle but he wont go anywhere near it and ive also tried taking him out in my arms but he hears noises(cars etc) and scarppers(then hides in house so is genuilly frightened) when door is opened he will sit on door step and look outside then run!! im just worried he will miss out when hes older as he does like sitting on windowsill watching the outside, im happy for him to stay in im just wondering if its normal behaviour and ok for him to stay in

Aww bless... Don't force him to go out. I'm sure when the weather gets warmer and you are outside more he will start to venture out.
My Persian was about 5 months old when I got her, she'd never been outside, the first time she took a few paces outside and the wind blew she looked round in terror to see what was touching her!
Some cats just prefer it indoors, maybe he will never like going out much.

Some cats like going out. Some don't. Some are like my cat who asks to go out and then sits on the door step, where no-one can see him, for hours. This angered the mad cat ladies up the road somewhat. We are no longer friends with the mad cat ladies Xmas Grin

Cats are strange little things and a law unto themselves. you'll get used to being his slave soon enough Xmas Grin

TBH, I'm with him on this. It's so cold on little paws. My two DCats spend most of their day curled up in small balls next to the radiator. I did NOT leave my electric blanket on for them, I accidently left it on.

everything fruitshoot says, don't force it, just in case he takes fright and scarpers in the wrong direction in a panic.

My youngest cat didn't like outside his first winter but now he cries to be out and loves it out there even though there is snow. 6 months old is still quite babyish with a lot of growing up and getting braver still to do.

Hello Serious,

there are risks to your kitty going out - staying in keeps him safe from cars and other cats but there are stress-induced conditions in cats and free access to the outdoors is the number one way to avoid/lessen these.

It will be easier in the summer as you can leave the door open.

We think of cats as predators but due to their size they are also prey and venturing outside means they are exposing themselves to predation.
The trick is to supply a safe route out of the door - if kitty has to leave the door and make a run for it across 30ft of lawn to the next cover, he won't bother. They also hate being overlooked by neighbouring cats from atop walls, sheds etc. Try and fix the lay out outside your door so he can hop from cover to cover every few feet eg rubbish bin, plant pots, your car on drive, garden furniture.

Hope that helps!
