I am having a dilema, me and ds came home from the shops earlier and there was a baby kitten wondering around in our cul-d-sac, i said to do ahh look so we went and said hello. Then the kitten followed us to our doorstep where we left it and said goodbye.

Ds was then at the kitchen widow playing with it as it sat on our window seal.

We went back out to nanny's house for about 40 mins and when we came back i thought it had gone but as we came to the door ds saw it sitting on our fence just waiting and it has not left our doorstep since.

My dilema is i don't know anything about kittens or cats and i don't think it should be on the street it looks to young? Does anyone know what age kittens are allowed out to wonder alone??
What should i do with it? leave it out or take it somewhere i feel very sorry for it??

Any help would be much appriciated TIA

Do you have a vets nearby? If someone has lost a kitten they may have notified the vet.

Katemum · 16/09/2005 16:52

Does it have a collar? Mine had a habit of escaping anyway he could from a very young age. Can you see anyone wandering about peering under cars and things?

BunnyBoo · 16/09/2005 16:55

Nope noone wondering about, it has been out since about 2pm well thats when we first saw it!

We do have many many vets nr by, it has a bright yellow collar thing round its neck but no info. It's just sitting on my windowseal.

phone your nearest vet and ask their advice.

If its only a small cul de sac, i'd pick it up and go and knock on the doors.

BunnyBoo · 16/09/2005 16:59

I think i am going to wait for dh who should be here any minute soon, then i can leave ds in the house with him and take the cat round a few doors, i know of one house across the road who have a couple of cats so i am wondering if it was theres. If that does not work i will call a vet.

or you could just keep it

They're normally weaned around 7/8 weeks, before then not advisable to be away from their mum. Have you got a yellow pages? If so, look up the nearest cats protection place and they'll put notices up for you and look after the little one. They really are great. Because it's so little, they'll probably want to come tonight to collect it.
Alternatively their website is : www.cats.org.uk. That'll put you in touch with the nearest branch. Good luck.

I could not tell you how old it is i have never had a cat or kitten its about 1 foot long and half a foot of the floor?? if that means anything to anyone?

at your description of it being a foot long and half a foot high! A really young kitten eg 8 weeks old, would fit in the palm of your hand. This sounds a bit older. Sounds as though the owner has let it out (maybe for the first time) and it has got lost. Could ds or yourself knock a a few posters saying yu have found a lost cat and stick them on the lampposts? Someone will be looking for it soon.

HellKat · 16/09/2005 17:10

Sounds about 3/4 months. Just give cats protection a call if you have no luck with door knocking.

BunnyBoo · 16/09/2005 17:13

Told you i had no idea about cats/kittens

Still waiting for dh then going to do some door knocking, there is no way i will leave it out for the night poor little mite is sleeping on my windowseal, i have let it in but feel if i keep it in side my house i may in courage it to think this is where it lives. what do you think is best while i wait and search?

It won't think your house is its home in the space of an evening. Don't feed it though as it might come to you in the future when it is out on its rambles again! I am sure by about 6 or 6:30 there will be someone out looking for it!

BunnyBoo · 16/09/2005 17:17

No i won't feed it as much as i would like too

Typical the night i want dh here he is late grrrr

If you have a conservatory, utility room etc that'd be a perfect place as it won't have the run of the house. Grab a big cardboard box, whack some old towels in it and pop a bowl of water in the room. As you don't have any cat food, have you got a tin of tuna in your cupboards? Think he'd be well chuffed with that. At least he'll have somewhere comfy and quiet to wait.
My cats only get tuna on their birthdays 'cos I'm a tight mare lol
