I need to take out some insurance for our cat and could do with some advice!

I have absolutely no idea what level of cover I need because I don't know how much a vet would charge to fix him IYSWIM.

Any tips or advice?

Life time cover is really important we have several elderly cats on several different meds in our practice needing around £100 of treatment per month. The vast majority of our claims are for life long conditions.
Badly broken bones I would look for cover up to £5000 for a cat.

I have a dog, and took out an insurance for £10.00 a month. Do not under estimate how much you may need. Our insurance pays out £7000 per condition. Barney got ill with a condtion that affects his anti bodies. We used this £7000 up in six months!!!!! An animal that needs to go to specialist hospital can cost £3000+ for a weeks stay. We have run out of insurance now and the dog is still ill. If he needs to go back to hospital he will have to be put down. it is utterely heartbreaking so go for what you can afford but realistic on what it may cost if the animal gets ill x x

We are with More Than for our cat. We wanted cover that would mean if she developed an illness in month 12, it would not be counted as a pre existing condition at the 12 month renewal.

Personally we have the basic level cover as we felt that we could cover monthly fees for medications for long term illnesses (diabetes / thyroid) but wanted emergency cover in case one of the cats had an accident or was suddenly ill as its the investigations / operations that will tend to cost a lot in one go.
One of our cats was ill a few years back with some autoimmune thing and we claimed back nearly £1000 - including operation/biopsy and initial treatment, couple of overnight stays at vet.
