Could do with some advice about my cat please

My cat is now 14 and a bit of an old gentleman... he can't jump very high and isn't very dynamic. He also has a tendency to pull clumps of his fur out so is of a nervous disposition

Anyway he's recently started doing a very strange meow. Not a normal high pitched meow, but what my mum would call 'crying'. It's deeper than normal and very throaty... sorry, it's hard to describe! He only does it for a little while then stops.

So this has been going on for a few weeks, usually at night time (well, about 6am) which is a right pain as it wakes us all up, including DS.

He's got food, fresh(ish) water and catflap available at night and always sits on my lap of an evening so I can't immediately see what the problem is (if any). Googling says it may be attention seeking or pain so maybe a vet visit is in order (which he HATES and poos himself in the car)

I just wondered if an outsiders opinion might shed any light

Thanks!

Wow, I had never ever thought of that. Thank you so much, I think you might well be right... I've looked up the symptoms and he does seem to forget whether he's coming or going. Grooming has slowed down too (I haven't noticed as many clumps of fur on the floor as previously!)

Aw bless him... DH wanted to shut him in the utility room but it sounds like we should be giving him more care and attention rather than less

With regards Zylkene, thanks for the tip. I tried Feliway spray previously which seemed to do naff all.

Thank you again so very much. May I ask are you a vet zukiecat or do you have experience of an older cat like mine? Just wondering if (obviously a lot further down the line) there would be a right time to have him PTS and how you know when's best for them?

PS: I used to have a siamese called Zuki
