I have 2 and they are so funny and very very naughty Grin. I dread the day one dies as I am certain the other will die of a broken heart.

I had to have my 3 year old guinea pig put to sleep today, because she had a large tumour in her tummy. Does anyone know if I could get another one to keep her sister company? Would it be better to put her with a baby guinea pig? I quite like the idea of getting another adult one from a rescue centre.

LovelyJudy · 14/10/2010 22:19

we are going to get our first two ever next week. it's secret, for my dd's b'day. i am so excited, but i just have to keep thinking about them by myself [lonely face].

samlouboo · 14/10/2010 22:49

we had the problem of a piggie dying and their friend dying the next day,not nice at all.i tend to put the lonely one in with another one soon after to help them forget,as long as their wasnt a contagious condition amongst them.

GRW so sorry to hear about your piggie :( i would definately get another one to keep her company, another girl of any age should be fine as girls usually get on well with each other or put a neutered boy in xxx

I'm sorry about your guinea pig, and thanks for your message. My little one had lost weight and was much smaller than her sister, but was eating right up until the day I took her to the vet, so I didn't realise she was ill.

samlouboo · 15/10/2010 16:15

thanks, mine had lost a little bit of weight and still ate and drank too and was running round.bless them they get ill quickly xxx

It is cold where we live on top of a hill and the grass is pretty much wet all the time so I wonder whether they can still go out in their run?

samlouboo · 15/10/2010 19:44

im sure they will enjoy the freedom of the run,as long as they have somewhere warm and dry to sleep they should be fine xxx

I put newspaper under their cabin and tbh even in summer they spend a lot of time hiding in there!

samlouboo · 15/10/2010 19:53

ahhh bless them ,they are so cute when they hide :)

Pigs should never be put on wet grass it is really bad for them and can make them ill very quickly. Please do a google search on it.

phipps · 16/10/2010 08:10

I did think that but then is it fair to keep them in their hutch for weeks on end?

silver73 · 16/10/2010 12:51

No they still need exercise so give them floor time in the house. This will keep them well and not risk them getting ill or worse.

I will have to put the cat away then!

phipps · 16/10/2010 12:56

Thank you for the link. It was very helpful.

silver73 · 16/10/2010 22:51

Absolutely put the cat away. A cat got in to my house a while back and terrified my pigs.

They are beautiful little creatures I love mine so much. I have four at the moment but am looking forward to having loads when I retire....
