kitten with diarrhoea

Hi all, hopefully someone here can help to point me in the right direction.

We got a kitten at the weekend, from the friday-ad. I did the stupid thing that everyone tells you not to do. There was no sign of the mother - apparently she was outside somewhere, so didn't get to see her. The other kittens and the one we chose all looked ok. Although the house was really grim - pretty dirty and smelly. I really just felt sorry for her and didn't want to leave her behind.

The woman gave me a tin of the food she had been eating - whiskers super meat.

She seemed ok for the first couple of days - although did seem to poo a lot. But for the last two days she has been in excess of ten times and it's really quite runny. Could this be because I have swapped her food, I felt kitten food would be better for her. Or possibly because she's just a bit stressed after leaving her mother?

She seems happy in herself and is eating and drinking ok.

Should I take her to the vet or just see how she gets on? She is nine weeks old.

Thank you

You should take her to the vet anyway, for a check up and to look into the necessary jabs and if you are going to get her spayed (not yet, but it would be good to hear from the vet what their normal pracitce is). It might be the change of food, or nervousness, but I would want the vet to check her over if it were me.

How much did you pay for her is she a pedigree? I would take her to the vets as soon as you can because kittens can become dehydrated really quickly from diarrhoea.

Get her to the vet and get her checked out. At this age (I'm guessing 6-8 weeks?) they can deteriorate so quickly and only need to lose a small amount of fluid ( through diarrhoea) to become very dehydrated.

I assume you are not feeding her milk?

I paid £30, she's not a pedigree or anything. She has used her litter tray during the night and done soft but not runny poo. While I was out this morning she did a pretty runny one on the front door mat. I'm starting to think she protesting at being left alone!

She did have a bit of cat milk the other day. Is she too young for that?

Will call the vet this afternoon.

Thanks for your help Smile
