Has anyone had a cat leave home for somewhere better?

My cat, who used to be a shy house sort of cat, since we moved house, has started disapeering at midnight when we let him out for a wee and not returning till 7pm the next night.
I think hes found someone else to live with and they are locking him in all day while they are at work.
Could be wrong but its odd from a cat who used to be Mr devoted.
Im sure ive heard of this...has it happened to you?

You know the book - Six Dinner Sid? Well, I think one of my cats must have heard me reading it to the kids and thought it was a good idea...

She has always been an 'outdoor cat' she's great with the kids but likes them in small doses.

She hasn't actually moved out, but she obviously gets fed elsewhere (several places from what I've heard). She comes in smelling of perfume and spends a lot of time sitting on a neighbour's doorstep. Sometimes she comes in at night, sometimes she doesn't. Sometimes we don't see her for several days at a time but she always comes back eventually.

What a blow to your self confidence as a cat mother. I can just picture him with a knap sack over his little shoulder in search of greener pastures as he gets smaller and smaller on the horizon. All I can say it we have adopted a few in our lives but they don't stay for long and not all day. Maybe he has gone back to your old house, assuming it is not millions of miles away, or has a lady friend.

Hes had his knackers off...and BTW I started a thread in relationships today and as I was posting this I wondered whether I was having abandonment issues

DH really wanted a cat... actually he really wanted a dog...like that was gonna happen. We both worked and used to leave food just inside the entrance for her. (We had a kind of consevatory/porch thingy then the front door).

A couple of pensioners lived next door. They took a shine to Teal, especially Doreen who was housebound. We would come home from work and find chopped up chicken, lamb, salmon, beef etc in her dish. Then they started leaving her specialist milk. Bloody cat was eating and drinking better than us! They took her and had her spayed, cos their son was having his cat done. Doreen said that cos we worked and Teal needed to be looked after inside for 2 weeks after the op she would look after her. They bought this blimming animal a Christmas present and rechristened her Rocket.

Moving day arrived and I'll be damned but the little creature jumped through Doreen's window and laughed at us. There was no way she was moving with us. Needless to say Doreen and Jim were happy to keep her. lol

One of our cats moved next door, he used to smirk (honest!) at us from the bedroom windows!

Have you tried letting yours out earlier for it's evening excursion, and calling it back within 10 minutes? I've had to start doing this with mine as he keeps coming under attack from the local yobcats at all hours, so far so good.

my neighbour's cat seems to have adopted me. she said tonight he only comes back once a day to be fed...i said yes...because he's always in my house. i have six cats, two of which are male and they just let him wander around. when my other neighbour goes on holiday her cat comes here too....that makes a total of eight cats. having said that, one of my females doesnt come back for weeks...she looks so much shinier now im sure she has another home. she lost her collar long ago and ive thought of putting one on her just to see if someone rings up to say i stole their cat!! erm no, i bought her as a kitten...im curious though.
