Please help me with my dog's eye

When we got him up this morning his left eye was all bloodshot. He was kind of pawing at it a bit. He doesn't seem too miserable or anything, so I don't think he's in pain as such, it's just bothering him and he's uncomfortable. He's kind of squinting out of it at the moment.

Has he just got something in it and we need to let the tears do their job? Do we need to bathe it? Do we need to take him to the vets? He's not going to go blind or anything is he?

He's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, age 4.

thank you

Off to the vets, you go. It could be all sorts of things and best to be careful, for him and for you. Smile

Oh blimey, what could it be?

Will tomorrow be ok or do I need to see if they can see us today?

Ok have rung vets and they are shut today, so is it an emergency or is tomorrow ok, what do we reckon?

He could easily have something in his eye (squinting/pawing suggests some discomfort or pain) and the longer left the more chance there is of damage being done to the eye surface.

If he is still squinting etc I would suggest seeing a vet today. As it's a bank holiday you may find they have a small slot of appts available at a reduced out of hour rate if you call before evening. I would certainly call for advice :)

Ok I rang the emergency line to find out whether it's an emergency. Apparently not, but I've booked him in for the morning. She said it might be conjunctivitis or a corneal ulcer, which means anti-biotics.

Thanks all
