My dog has just scared me half to death....

He was laying in his fave spot by my feet under the pc desk. Mostionless. I called his name, he didn't respond. I patted him, he didn't respond. I said the 'W' word, he didn't respond. I panicked and shook him and he snarled at me

I am constantly, constantly reminding the children never to disturb the dog when he is sleeping, or, when he is under the desk (he has adopted this as his 'safe place'). And then I go and do it. It's not the first time either, I have done this before and I do it to the cat almost daily Blush

Please tell me I am not the only slightly dim, drama queen pet owner? I don't remember being like this with my pfb Blush

'W' word - walk. You cannot say that or the 'L' word - lead, with out inducing a somersault filled mad half hour.

I can't even tell DH that I will walk to the shops instead of getting a taxi.

Shiny - I am madly pfb about my cat, I was about to get the emergency vets out once until she threw up a hairball and clearly wasn't about to die.....

I checked my puppy was still breathing last night as he didn't move when I got up.

I think I am allowed to be paranoid though as my previous puppy died Sad
Well thats my excuse anyway for being neurotic about him and it means I can be considered slightly less paranoid!

ShinyAndNew · 24/08/2010 15:49

Yes kid. You're allowed and more sensible than me, it didn't occur to me to check he was breathing. That would have been slightly less dramatic.

As a vet I suffer on a regular basis from the deep sleeping patient heart stopping moment. Some of them can do an excellent impression of dead!!!

wildfig · 24/08/2010 17:06

You're not alone - is normal to fear the worst. I'm so paranoid about our dogs getting bloat that I've rushed the youngest one round to the vets after nothing more than a secret scoffing session big meal.

ThatDamnDog · 24/08/2010 20:39

My old lurcher does that sleep-of-the-dead thing too. She's so laid back she may as well be dead though, unless you say the B word that is (bunnies!) Grin
