I collected him today and he is so sweet.
He is amazingly well behaved too, wondering if it will last lol
he is currently fast asleep under the kitchen table.

sadly, his mum has to have an emergency operation this evening to have her uterus removed. I really hope she is okay, she is such a fantastic dog.

I just read and posted on your other thread and it is lovely to hear you have a new family member home. Smile.

kid · 21/08/2010 14:36

Thank you

It won't last :)

I've just had to fetch my utterly mad 1 year old cocker from next door after he'd pushed his way through the fence to play with their pug pup. He used to sleep in the crook of my arm like an angel.

Madsometimes · 21/08/2010 14:42

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you, and I'm sure the children are delighted with their new dog too Smile. Has he got a name yet?

SoupDragon · 21/08/2010 14:44

Awwww... Just looked at your photos. Reminds me of Dill when he was a squashed up little sausage! he was often mistaken for a chocolate and white Springer as a pup.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 21/08/2010 14:47

Fantastic news, I'm really pleased for you all Smile. Of course it will last, don't listen to Soupdragon

BeenBeta · 21/08/2010 15:27

Lovely dogs. Mum bred them and showed them for many years.

Just one word of advice. Thy have huge energy and need a lot of excercise for that body, nose and brain. A bored under excercised Springer will chew and trash your house given half a chance.

Do enjoy your dog. Smile

He is called Teddy Smile

You do know what they say about the honeymoon period, dontcha?! :o

kid · 21/08/2010 16:52

he is so funny. He has been sleeping most of the afternoon, he managed to lazily eat some dinner and have a drink (slobber all over the floor!).

I keep taking him outside to the garden and tell him 'Go toilet' and he does! He is amazing and I am certain it won't be this easy all the time, could it?

He had a little burst of energy a little while ago, he started chasing us for our feet. He has also been playing with his ball, rolling it on the floor between his feet while he lays down.

He can sit for a treat which I reckon the breeder must have taught him as he seemed to get it after 2 attempts with me. Or maybe I am just a super dog trainer? Grin

He is asleep again now, he needn't think I'll be up playing with him all night, although I know I would if he really wants me to lol

He is so solid and healthy looking. His legs are like tree trunks!

He sounds lovely. You obviously have amazing dog training talents! Can you give me some tips to sort out my mad lovely JRT?

kid · 21/08/2010 17:12

I am using my knowledge from the puppy classes I attended earlier this year.

To get him to sit, I held a treat in my hand which he was going mental to get. I pushed it into his nose which forces his bum down while saying sit. As soon as his bum touched the floor, I let him have it. I did the same the next time and he was quicker. The 3rd time, I didn't even need to push it into his nose, he just sat when he saw me holding the treat.

He is absolutely lovely, but looks so sad with his droopy eyes! When he pants, he looks like he is smiling. He is crashed out on his mummy blanket again, what a hard life he leads!

So glad you have got him Kid. He sounds like a dream.

kid · 21/08/2010 17:21

thanks minimu1, he is a dream and I am soooo proud of him.
I have been hanging around in the garden at the front of my house with him desperate to show him off to anyone and everyone!

Fantastic dogs - need major league exercise - great for the waistline and for getting the kids out in the rain!

Always in hedges (just posted today about my hedge obsessed springer) and you never know what they will turn up with in their mouths next (mine appeared with a snake not so long ago)!

Love them, love them, love them Grin.

WhatTheFrack · 21/08/2010 17:48

Congratulations, springers are by far and away the best breed of dog.

We lost our lovely springer after 16 long and happy years last October and we all still miss her. I still can't believe that when I leave a packet of biscuits on the side they're still there when I go back to them Grin

I second the need for lots of walking but I don't believe you'll find a more loving, adorable family pet.

They are crazy though, mine once had to be rescued from up a tree after she chased a cat up there!

kid · 21/08/2010 17:57

my last dog was a springer cocker cross and was barmy!
Teddy seems so very calm. He won't even attempt the stairs just yet. I give him a week before he is running up and down them!

we have been snapping away with the camera, you are more likely to see the photos on FB than on here though as they are so easy to upload!

I can add you as a friend, just email me kt8cs5(at)yahoo.co.uk and let me know you sent an email or I'd never check that account!

My cocker is always rummaging about in brambles and other assorted undergrowth. I am constantly having to remove vast swathes of greenery from his legs and cut out huge tangles where his fur has wound round brambles. thankfully he's caught no wildlife yet, I shudder at the thought of a snake!

Definitely need more photos. i think i have more of Dill than of my middle child Blush

kid · 21/08/2010 19:56

I post so much more about my puppies than my kids on this site lol

my kids are often seen in the photos of the dog, even if they are in the background!

Well that's our first night over with and he was great. I had to carry him to my room as he can't handle the stairs yet!
But he slept on his bed for the whole night and didn't signal for the toilet so I didn't let him in the garden. He didn't have any accidents at all. I let him out at 6:30, he did a wee and came back in.

He has tried eating my rug which I have signalled him to stop doing which seems to have done the trick.

An update on his mum - she had the op last night and did not have to have her uterus removed, phew.
She was in recovery and was doing well. Hopefully I'll find out more today but I am so pleased she is okay.
