Have also put this in the chat topic

He was fully housetrained, but over the past couple of weeks I am getting up most morning to urine in my kitchen angry

Nothing in his schedule has changed at all so nothing up there, buit heres the thing. He is a very large dog and on the occasions I have seen him weeing outside, he wees forever and leaves a huge lake hmm

Anyway what Im finding in my kitchen is like hes just had a quick squirt angry

Why is he doing this, and how do I stop him, its really starting to take its toll getting up to a wee;d in kitchen everymorning. sad

Hi
We have a rescue dog and when we first had him he was fine during the day (never wet or messed) but at night he would wet his bedding (although we always got up when he asked to be let out). We thought maybe he had a weak bladder or something as he'd been beaten quite badly.

However, trainer who specialised in rescue dogs said they sometimes wet their bedding or other areas when they are scared - they use the smell of their urine to help them feel more secure - she said anything could spark the insecurity (smell of a perfume someone wore when beating him, smell of something cooking - that sort of thing). She said it is usually a smell as so connected to memory.

So - might be worth checking if you have been using a new air freshner / cleaner or anything different.

It took a long time for our DD (dog not daughter) to get over this but he is worth it. We tried all the sprays etc but only time and love really helped.

Good luck

Is he neutered or has he recently been neutered? If so, he may be scent marking. It is something that can be sorted with training, although that is hard when you aren't there when he is doing it, or neutering may help. If he is recently neutered, he may stop in a few weeks or so.

It might be worth a quick once over at the vets to make sure there is no underlying problem, but I am being extra cautious here as it's an internet forum and you just never know...

Definately a trip to the vet to rule out any physical reason - how old is he?

If given the all clear has he ever been crated? I would recommend this as it will ease his anxiety (if introduced to the crate correctly) and will encourage the dog to wait until the morning to wee.

Nope hes still got his balls.

He will be 2 on Dec 1st.

He has never been crated.

And he is a GSD.

Although 2 he can still be introduced to a crate although carefully and it may take time but I would still get him checked over just to make sure. I saw on the other thread people talking about alpha dog and dominance don't waste your time going down that path as it is an old inaccurate idea.

If you don't want to do a crate and he has been given the all clear by the vet. I would give him a smaller area to sleep in so maybe block off part of the room he is in now. Do not tell him off for weeing as if it is anxiety lead he will get more anxious and wee more. Make sure that the area is cleaned with a secialist cleaner from the pet shop as most household cleaners actually increase the smell of wee to the dog (biological washing powder and boiling water will also work).

However I feel that the vet will find a reason and maybe castration is the way to go but obviously I am guessing!
