Is there anywhere that does this?

I have 2 female cats to neuter! (one has been dumped rehomed with me)

Talk to your local cats protection league as they can provide vouchers in certain circumstances.

After all the benefit bashing threads it took me a sec to realise this thread is in pets Shock

Marne · 12/08/2010 20:19

We managed to get a voucher from Cats protection league (luckily dh's step mum works for them), it doesn't cover the full cost though (i think its just £20 off).

Where do you live? I used to volunteer at one of Celia Hammond's cat shelters (in Lewisham, South London) - they would help you out.

More info here.

OMG, for a moment I thought you were proposing neutering people on low incomes ShockWinkGrin!

Our local cat and dog rescue centre offer this service for free - I think funded through the Cat Protection League as mentioned above. Also the RSPCA can issue vouchers.

We are actually on benefits if that makes a difference? Income support.

have you a branch of the blue cross nearby?

I will admit I also misread the titleBlush

Marne · 12/08/2010 20:31

If you are on income support i think you can get help from the RSPCA (if there is one near you) or cats protection, give them a ring and ask them.

Wallace · 12/08/2010 20:38

At least I wasn't the only ne, Pacific Dogwood Grin

I'm glad there are people with advice :)

ValiumSingleton · 12/08/2010 20:41

Same here Wallace!! relieved.

Vallhala · 12/08/2010 20:43

Yep, Cats Protection if you have a nearby branch or if not, call the RSPCA and explain the situation. They will either direct you to one of their minor treatment surgeries (about £7 for a consultation, drugs at cost, and I think about £20 for a cat neuter) or will put you in touch with a local branch member who will issue a voucher for REDUCED neutering at a private surgery if there's no RSPCA one near you. Occasionally they will refer you directly to their hospital, depending on where you live, but AFAIK these are far and few between.

A friend has just gone through the RSPCA to get her cat neutered. She took mog to their minor treatment surgery, had a consultation and then mog was placed on a waiting list for surgery at our local Vet training school.

The PDSA used to have a similar system and presumably still do.

WRT private treatment, shop around for quotes if you can, provided of course that standard of care is the same. Often there's quite a difference in prices, even with vets within a mile or two of each other.

One last thing - RSPCA treatment for pets owned by those on benefits is a godsend but DON'T buy Frontline etc from them. It's much cheaper online, with PetMeds being the best ime (great, fast customer service too).

HTH

StealthPolarBear · 12/08/2010 20:43

just came on to say the same as wallace :o

Lizcat · 13/08/2010 08:20

Echoing everyone else local cats protection and RSPCA usually they issue a voucher for about£20 off a male cat and £26 off a female cat. Occasionally cats protection will cover full price, but really depends on your circumstances.
Unfortunatly the lovely Blue Cross Scheme was closed in january this year due to lak of funds and PDSA scheme out side of their clinics has been cut back to emergency treatment only.

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 13/08/2010 11:40

we got vouchers from Cat protection for £20 off our 2 cats even though not on benifits as they said they would rather it get done no matter what money your on :)

TotorosOcarina · 13/08/2010 15:04
